It was a great ending to a new character. I hope to see more of her books. It was great development.

Not necessarily going to stay with you, but fine! Fun!

I am giving this 4.5 stars rounded to 5. I really enjoyed this series. It was paced well and kept my interest easily. It was gripping from start to finish. The twists and turns were predictable at times but not so much that it made me just want it to get over with. Regan is caught between an emotional rock and a hard place. She has to push thru her own pain and hurt to get justice for her son and throughout the book you are never quite sure if she’s going to get it or not. It was tense and gripping and even made me nervous a couple of times wondering how it was all going to play out. I really enjoyed this book and the series. I hope the author plans to continue this series. I would love to know what happens next. Is justice served or will the people behind it all slip away without jail time?

Allison Brennan knows how to write a thriller. I devoured this book and could not wait to see what would be happening next. The characters were realistic, with real issues and real feelings. I really enjoyed the interactions between the characters and the history shared between the characters. For some reason, I did not read the first book in the Regan Merritt Series, but I had no problem jumping right into this book and figuring out what was going on. I am now going to go back and read the book.
Regan has lived a mother’s worse nightmare. Her son, Chase, was murdered. Her marriage did not survive the death. The man, Tommy, who is investigating the reason Chase was killed has called her to say he has information for her. I wanted Tommy to be her hero, to figure out why Chase had to die but unfortunately Tommy was killed before he could share what he knew. Regan returns to Tommy’s home and finds out more than she thought. The clues were there, the path was laid, and I walked (read) right down it. I was sure I knew where the author was taking me, but I was not entirely correct.
Don’t Open the Door has cemented Allison Brennan as a must-read author for me. She is an auto purchase and recommend to everyone. If you love a good thriller, she is the author for you.

Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoy the Reagan Merrit series books! I hope she does more.

DID NOT FINISH: 25%

Couldn’t get into it.
mysterious slow-paced

I have now read 3 Allison Brennan books in the last 6 months and don't plan on stopping, I love her writing style - her chapters are on the shorter side which I like and very effective use of alternating POVs. While I would label this series as a mystery thriller, the main character, Regan Merritt, is a former US Marshal so we get a law enforcement style perspective which I really like.

While I didn't enjoy Don't Open the Door as much as I liked The Sorority Murders, I do plan on continuing the series. This book dived into Regan's backstory as she works towards untangling the events and circumstances that ultimately led to her son's murder, something that never felt complete to her even though a man was arrested and charged. As the story unraveled there was more bureaucratic vibes than I normally like which I think is why I didn't enjoy it as much as The Sorority Murders. As much as I enjoy reading about the investigative process from law enforcement characters, I prefer more of a psychological thriller.

This story does not contain spoilers for the previous book but because the entire premise is going into Regan's backstory, I do think it's beneficial to read The Sorority Murders first to have an introduction to her as a character and gain some context.

Thank you to Netgalley and MIRA Books for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
