Pippa is in the aftermath of a breakup and having to find herself. She and her ex started dating in high school and dated for years. When she was put on a plane home while he was still on tour, only to find out he was breaking up with her, she found herself with nothing. She's desperate for a job so when she's hired as a personal assistant for one of the local Vancouver Storm players, she holds her head high and hopes he doesn't remember her from high school.
Jamie was recently traded to the Vancouver Storm hockey team as their goalie. He has 2 responsibilities: hockey and his mother's mental health. He doesn't have time for anything else. When he finds a stray dog and just can't bring himself to leaving it at the pound, he takes it home. He quickly knows he'll need a PA to help take care of this dog. He's shocked with the girl at his door is Pippa, the girl he was attracted to in high school.
I feel bad for Pippa. She basically identified herself as the girlfriend of an up and coming singer. She put everything she was and wanted aside for him. So when he dumps her like yesterday's garbage, she's left with absolutely nothing. And when she first meets Jamie at his place, he's so gruff with her (there is a reason but still). I just wanted to be her friend the whole book.

1.5/5 stars. I wasn’t a fan of this one. Jamie’s povs were insufferable and every time he said “my pretty assistant”, or a variation of that phrase, I had to take a reading break.
This book also could’ve been shorter - by the end I felt like there was an oversaturation of smut scenes that got boring very quickly.
I read a few chapters of Hazel and Rory’s book and I was not interested so I don’t see myself continuing this series anytime soon but time will tell.

I loved this book and so much and I’m so glad it got me out of my reading slump!! I love love love sports romances and this one is definitely going to be a new favorite series!
To start off the romance was so cute! I loved Pippa and Jamie’s relationship! They are so supportive of each other and seeing them both encourage each other to stand up for themselves and achieve their dreams was so lovely. While this book did have a lot of spice the characters still had a meaningful and beautiful connection with eachother. I really loved the aspect of them secretly liking each other in high school and then reuniting later on. Invisible string theory is always perfect. Daisy, their dog, was also an adorable addition to this book!! She was so cute and silly and really helped bring our two characters together.
For the sports side I loved it so much! I really enjoy hockey so I really liked reading all the scenes from the games! I like the found family aspect that Jamie has with his team and coach and I love that they took the time to get to know and befriend Pippa as well! I LOVED Rory so much and I’m so looking forward to his book which is next!!
For Pippa’s music, I like that she has a more unique interest than typical FMCs! I also loved that she ended up standing up to her awful ex boyfriend and that she worked really hard to make her dreams come true on her own. Her story within her career is a perfect example of perseverance even when people tell you you’re not good enough or when things get bad.
I enjoyed the anxiety representation with Jamie’s mom. Not only did it bring awareness to how it can effect someone’s life but it also demonstrated how it can effect their family and friend’s lives as well.
I really loved this book. I rated it 4.5 stars instead of 5 just because the characters weren’t my all time favorites I’ve ever read and the storyline wasn’t really something that I just absolutely loved. The pet name “songbird” also gave me a little bit of an ick I fear.
But overall this book was so good! I’m so excited to read the rest of the series as well as other books by this author! Definitely a new favorite sports romance.

I have loved every thing that I’ve read by Stephanie and this one did not disappoint. This book follows Jamie, the professional hockey player, and Pippa, who recently had her life turned upside down. While trying to get her life back on track she applies to be an assistant and who is it for?? No other than her high school crush. This book was too cute. I loved that it was dual POV cause we could see that each of them liked each other but neither of them had a clue. Hockey romances are a little over done at this point but not this one!!! It had accurate descriptions and an interesting plot!
