I get the whole book is about memory but if I read the phrase core memory again I will scream. Not my favorite Abby Jimenez book but still good. Sadder than I expected.

i literally could not put this down. abby jimenez just knows how to write such captivating, emotional romance stories. i know some people had issues with the pop culture references in this, but imo there weren’t enough to discredit the whole book because of them. that’s just something i can easily look past if the rest of the story is written how this was. plus i absolutely loveddd xavier and am proud to share a last name with him 🙌

“there is nothing more beautiful than being a witness to someone's life. to know them inside and out and be with them through everything, share the same memories. memories are everything. i want that."

“it’s weird knowing what's going to be in your end-of-life montage, as it's happening. but i already knew when my life flashed before my eyes, the best parts of it were going to be about her.”

"i’d like to look back on my life and remember every single thing. but if i don't, i hope i remember that it was a love story. and that the love story was about you."

I will automatically read anything by Abby Jimenez! This one wasn’t my favorite of hers, I think because I prefer a little more relationship buildup over the instalove vibe in this book. But Abby still always does a great job of writing romance novels with substance. Reading about the mom with dementia was heartbreaking.

don’t read this book if dementia effects your family it will make you cry while making brownies on a wednesday.

i wanted this to be rated higher, but i dont think insta love books are for me. my mans was head over heels for samantha from the first page of the book and that just doesn’t feel believable to me.

however (!!!!!!) the effort that both of them put in to the long distance relationship (which, let’s be real that was the entire relationship) was very believable that they were in love i guess.

samantha was so confident in her job, and maybe that’s just because we never really went too deep into her position, but her reaction to being fired told me enough that i knew sister was shonked

hank was really a sleeper guardian angel to xavier

things i didn’t like: the constant bringing up of come on eileen….didnt care for that at all. but ms. jimenez has a habit of constantly mentioning the one token thing from how the main couple met throughout the story, and i think she could do with 75% less of the mentions. maybe 3 times max.

I had a hard time with this one. My first turnoff was how many cringey current day trendy language references are made (i.e., ACOTAR references galore, “are your consequences consequencing”). Books that rely on references to current pop culture trends are one of my biggest pet peeves and, in my opinion, will not stand the test of time. I also felt that the romance was lacking depth. I wanted more character growth and relationship development, which was stunted, I think, due to the long-distance setup. I understand the long-distance plot point was part of the struggle, but it also meant that I didn't fully believe in the true-love-happily-ever-after ending. It ended up feeling rushed and insincere. I appreciate the inclusion of real-life obstacles and the struggle of the characters trying to navigate very tough decisions and their own family traumas, but in the end I felt it was all wrapped up too easily.

Abby Jimenez books tend to go either way for me and unfortunately this one didn’t do it for me.

Undeniably Abby Jimenez. Breaks a bit from the standard romance format and sometimes a little depressing. Still very sweet, but I like some of her earlier books better.

Abby Jimenez never ceases to amaze me with her poignant romantic comedies. She is truly a master at creating a realistic and vivid world with relatable characters. The characters in this book truly tug at your heartstrings.

Well, that just punched me in the heart. I loved so much about this—the very real depiction of disease, and the exhaustion and grief while someone is living, the fact that the miscommunication trope was only used lightly (same with enemies to lovers), and the discussion and acceptance of messy choices and lives. And I adore Xavier.
