This one just didn't hit for me and I'm so sad about it. Xavier's and Samantha's relationship was so insta-lovey and they fell for each other so quick that I just didn't believe it, so the lines I would normally swoon over in a romance book didn't hit the same way. Some parts were boring. Others were repetitive in terms of their declarations and problems. While I loved Xavier's friend group and there were some laugh-out-loud moments, the concept was better than the execution. Jimenez is an auto-buy author though and I look forward to what she puts out next!

Abby Jimenez does it again. From the title alone, I wasn't sure that I wanted to read this one. But my adoration for all works by Abby Jimenez won me over (or, perhaps, bullied me into it). It is probably on par with Yours Truly or Fall Risk, which are my current favorites and frequent re-read. I'm sensitive about memory care and I wish that I wasn't. And while I admire the family's approach, I think they should've explored more options.

wtf was this, Abby?

this felt like it was written (or at least edited) by a different person. it was SO choppy, especially in the beginning of the book — the writing did improve in the last third or so.  there was so much telling and so little showing that I didn’t really care about these characters being together, especially because there were so many reasons why they should each move on.

also literally everything that could go wrong did, which did not make this a fun or charming read, except if you count laughing because of course
her beloved grandmother dies and of course her dad is cheating and of course she’s fired.
Pick one devastating plot point and stick with it, lol.  Don’t even get me started on Xavier’s need for therapy and “cutesy” reliance on breaking labor laws to keep his practice going.

I will say the depiction of dementia caretaking was fairly accurate to my own experiences with it, so there’s that.

also do a better job at describing your characters. repeatedly telling me the MMC looks like Rhysand from ACOTAR means nothing to me and is so unbelievably cringey. ew.

Found the first half of the book unexpectedly upsetting and challenging, the content warnings were not enough to really cover the animal abuse depicted in the book.

There were some really wonderful aspects that felt consistent with the author’s previous books but the flaws and actions of the villains were so extreme it was hard to shake the horror and focus on the other aspects of the book.

I should know better than to expect Abby’s books to be full of rainbows and sunshine. The subject matter was heavy but the romance was so beautiful.

I got a free Libro.fm credit for one of their reading challenges and I just knew I needed to grab Say You’ll Remember me because I couldn’t wait to read it and I bought a book trophy that I didn’t want to crack open.

I wait for a new book by Abby Jimenez every day. And every year it’s worth the wait. I absolutely devoured each and every book and Say You’ll Remember was no different.

I loved every second of the book. I laughed a lot. And like most of her books there are quirky animal characters who add so much to the story. And even Brad has a cameo 😍.

Say You’ll Remember Me was definitely heavier than most of her books. And I’d suggest checking out trigger warnings to make sure this book is for you.

This is the first of Abby’s book where I listened to the story. And I’m not sure I’ll ever experience one of her books another way. The narrators were fantastic and added so much to the storytelling.

Here’s to waiting another year for another gem from Abby Jimenez

⚠️TW: Brief discussion about animal cruelty, heavy on being a caregiver for a person with Alzheimer’s, side character who dies of heart disease, grief, and brief description of physical and emotional abuse of a child
