When I heard several teenagers talking about how much they liked these books I had to give them a try. These books get better as the series goes on. Maybe it is that I know the characters better or that I am invested in the story. But the ElectroClan is certainly a fun bunch of kids to read about.

I'd say this was my favorite of this series so far. It had all the elements of a great story with tension, humor, action, romance, and some great character arcs and plot developments. There were a few times I was genuinely surprised by where the story went, but I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to sink my teeth into the next book!
The fight against the Elgen intensifies. I love how this good vs evil story is progressing. This book also teaches the importance of teamwork, forgiveness, and that kindness can go along way.

I love these books. They keep me on the edge of my seat. I think this one is my favorite of the series so far!
As this is the fourth book in the series, there really isn't much that I can say that wouldn't be spoiler-y. I chose to listen to this series via audiobook, so I want to specifically address that. For whatever reason, the third and fourth books were not narrated by the same person who voiced the first, second, fifth, six and final book in the series. That means that three different people narrated this series if that is something that would bother you I would recommend reading the books physically. I personally enjoyed the narrator for this book the most out of the three that voiced this series.
This story was as enjoyable as the others and is a good level for middle-grade readers or younger YA readers. Unfortunately, the author continues to overuse the word said and it is becoming more and more irksome as the series progresses. I had hoped that it would improve, but it hasn't yet. One can still hope though.
It was nice to see more character development and the Electroclan seeing more of the world. Understandably, after everything the kids have gone through they feel older than their actual years. Forced to grow up and shoulder too much responsibility too quickly. I still recommend this series and hope that the writing will improve through the last three books.

This is the last book I read in the series. It was boring enough I simply have no interest in continuing currently.
I didn't find this one as engrossing as the other books. Pretty good adventure journey.

The Value of a Star: Ratings Explained
What did I read during the summer of 2017? All 7 books in the Michael Vey series. Thanks for asking.
Was that a good use of my reading time? Yep. I've been waiting for the series finish before I start (cliffhangers--I hate them), and with the impeding book 7 release date finally getting near, it was time to jump in.
Richard Paul Evans (you might know him as "The Christmas Box" guy) did something special with Michael Vey. He turned a guy with a physical disability and low self esteem into a hero.
I think that's really cool.
Michael Vey's dad died when he was 8. He and his mom have had to move around a lot. He gets picked on. He has Tourette's syndrome that makes him gulp and twitch--especially when he gets nervous. Michael has to deal with all these things daily...but there's something bigger. He has a secret. No one can know. He can't make his mom move again. He can't hurt anyone else.
Michael Vey is electric.
Like super-power electric.
This is the story of how Michael discovers that "It's not all right to be different. It's freaking awesome."
He's right.
Michael's electrical powers are discovered, and he is forced to make an attempt to rescue his kidnapped mom. His rescue mission kicks off a 7-book adventure around the world making friends, falling in love, becoming a hero, and beating the bad guys.
I didn't love the last book in the series...it ended a flat. There were some significant big reveals that happened in the last few pages, and I felt like things were rushed instead of resolved. But that was one book out of seven, and it's the only negative in an otherwise perfectly enjoyable summer read.
The Michael Vey series is great fun. I recommend it for the young teens it was written for as well as anyone looking for an exciting story free from sex and grown-up language.
Happy Reading!
