I liked it. I was VERY confused the first part of the book because they introduced so many characters and I’m not great with names. I liked how it all ties together though.

This books idea, the structure - one of a kind. Truly it cannot be replicated its 3 universes conected together and i cannot say anything negative on that front.
Now - my reading experience ? Ok. I understood all the references, we even discussed it in class ( MA level ) but i cant say it did something for me so i cant give it a 4/5

Beautifully written. The Laura segments are the strongest to me; the Clarissa segments lose a bit by being the closest to Woolf's original, although Cunningham still puts his own creative spin on things.

I'd watched the movie and had forgotten how depressing it was. But the book reminded me! I think Michael Cunningham does a terrific job creating characters and portraying their interactions, but his world is enormously depressing. (See A Home at the End of the World for another such painfully sad story.)

Tough book to rank. Beautifully written and the stories are intricately intertwined, but overall pretty dark. Never been able to fully enjoy books where the characters are so clinically depressed
