Wish I had the bonus pdf. This book was decent and semi-practical.

His mission statement: Help people simplify their lives by realizing the value of their memories.

If you think you'll use an item in one month then keep it otherwise get rid of it.

When moving, pack the toiletries last so they can be used until you're ready to leave and then they can be unpacked first when you get to your new place.

Ask these questions to your loved ones:
1) Where did you grow up? How long did you live there? What did it look like?
2) What did you do for fun in High School?
3) What was the first job you got paid for? And how much did you get paid?
4) Tell me about your childhood best friend and your best memory of him?
5) What was your first car?
6) Who was your first love?
7) What was your favorite place you have ever visited? Who were you with and how did you get there?
8) Who or what inspires you?
9) What is the most challenging thing you have ever accomplished and why was it so difficult? Why did you do it?
10) What is the one thing you want everyone to know about you when you are gone?

I’m already thinking of all the people I want to give this book to :) Having seen my mom go through the process recently of cleaning out her parents’ house, the topic has been on my mind. Loved Paxton’s combination of stories from his work and practical tips. Wished the book had been a bit longer so more stories could have been included.

I'm in the middle of sorting and packing in preparation to downsize to a house that is half the size of the one I currently live in, so this was the perfect audiobook to listen to! Paxton provides practical advice for the whole sorting/packing/moving process while talking a lot about how to handle the emotion of it all. I love that he advises people to not just feel their feelings, but also to honor the reasons why they're feeling what they're feeling (namely, the good memories being evoked). All of the advice Paxton gives is sensitive, practical, and encouraging. He seasons it with examples from his own experiences, both personal and professional, with sorting, packing, and moving.

I enjoyed listening to this book while packing. Paxton's voice is warm and calming, very easy on the ears. I definitely recommend the audio version of KEEP THE MEMORIES, LOSE THE STUFF. It was an enjoyable listening experience all around.

I haven't actually applied the principles yet but I intend to and I already feel better about the process so I'm starting with a 4. May edit in the future if it doesn't work for me. I appreciate that he approaches it with a lot of sensitivity to why people have the stuff they do and I even found myself tearing up at some of the stories his clients shared with him.

Paxton has some good ideas on how to cut down on possessions. He makes it clear that telling stories about your items and making sure that others know what is important to you and discussing what they might actually want is important in culling items.
