Well it was very anticlimactic to not actually find out what happened to Jamie and Peter in the end. And it was very obvious from the beginning that Rosalind had something to do with Katy’s murder and I loved that the book tied nicely with Cassies story about her encounter with a psychopath. Also Rob Ryan is a douche and doesn’t deserve Cassie so I’m glad she moved on from him in the end.
My take on what happened to Jamie and Peter is that they got stuck under a uprooted tree and died a silent death, in that way they died without anyone hearing it and no bodies were found and it ties to that the Forrest went from being their sanctuary to their death.
This book wasn’t really what I thought it would be since it was purely a crime-investigation story and I thought it would be a lot creepier and haunting than it was. I also like my crime books to actually have an ending but I had to create my own with this. I will however read the next book in this series purely because it’s about Cassie, who I loved to read about, but I’m not sure if I want to go through four more books if their all like this.
The three star rating is only because it had me hooked and I read it in like three days which is insane for me because it’s almost 600 pages.

The writing style is excellent for a murder mystery—great imagery without being pretentious. But the subject was too gruesome for my taste and I was somewhat disappointed with parts of the ending. Also, the audio book was terrible; all of the women (voiced by a male narrator) sounded whiny and indistinguishable. So, someone with a stronger constitution who likes murder mysteries and doesn’t listen to the audio might like this a lot.
