I couldn't deal with the narrator's voice any longer. I feel sick awful but she sounded like a new presenter and her various children voices peaked high iritation into my brain.
The story also wasn't one I was really invested in either, unfortunately.

I was recommended this series by a friend and I absolutely loved it. I find it shocking that it’s middle grade - the story feels a lot darker than what I usually see for that age group. It’s certainly not a happy tale. In fact, the story is near depressing. The main character is tormented/tortured, people die, and injuries are written out in a bit more detail (nothing gory, for sure though!). Fans of the Nevermoor series will love this!

This book was hard to read, and it had nothing to do with poor writing. The Thickety is a story full of darkness and dread, the sort that settles in deep and only intensifies as the plot unfolds. Although the villagers of De'Noran believe the Thickety to be the most terrible evil, the book instead explores a more destructive force: the greed of humans. At the heart of this story is a tale of two girls and the temptation of power that changes everything they ever knew, forever. Highly recommend if you're looking for something dark and sinister.
