I kinda messed up... I thought I had listened to [b:The Hourglass Throne|59365449|The Hourglass Throne (The Tarot Sequence, #3)|K.D. Edwards|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1643957622l/59365449._SX50_.jpg|86574288] but looking through "My Books", I hadn't and it became pretty obvious to me why I couldn't reconcile this story with Rune's corresponding one. Or even very well follow it for that matter. And now I'm pissed with myself because I have spoilered myself!!!

Narration wise my only niggle is Anna's voice. I had forgotten that Anna was a teenager (15-16yo) and with the voice the narrator gave her I thought she was 10 or so, till I went looking for info and I found that Anna was 16. After that, every time I heard it, I was thrown off the story.

Other than that I was excited to listen to anything Quinn and Max, and I can't wait to find out more about Anna's aspect. I'm here rooting for and curious about Quinn's endgame!

But I gotta admit that anything that has to do with past Atlantis, New Atlantis, "translocated" land, the wastelands, the Eidolon etc are a mystery to me and I can't really follow all those places. And Max, Quinn and Anna spend all their time mostly running around in the Eidolon. Anyways I'd really love it if K.D. Edwards would commission a map because I can't map all that coherently in my brain. And unfortunately I'm the type of reader that needs the geography to follow the story better.

Finally another thing that is like a tiny paper cut -you forget it's there till it stings for whatever reason- is that there's Quinn and then there's Queenie... all the names in the world and identical sounding ones were chosen... *siiigh*.

I'm curious if in [b:The Last Sun|36466732|The Last Sun (The Tarot Sequence, #1)|K.D. Edwards|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1517437940l/36466732._SY75_.jpg|58174811] or [b:The Hanged Man|38224713|The Hanged Man (The Tarot Sequence, #2)|K.D. Edwards|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1523219986l/38224713._SX50_.jpg|59902859] we have learned about the Fool's role in the destruction of the sun court, because I do not remember AT ALL! If anyone remembers, feel free to send a message my way.

Now Imma need to find time and listen to The Hourglass Throne!

This is a companion (ha) piece to The Hourglass Throne that runs parallel to that plot. We get to see what the kids were up to when they were kidnapped and separated from Rune. I loved how different these points of view felt from Rune. I loved how intuitive and inquisitive they are and I loved their interactions so much. I think that I didn't really know Max at all until this novella. His voice and his personality comes through so strong and I loved meeting him for what felt like the first time.

Of course, this one has a lot of HUGE implications for the rest of the series and the overall tone is therefore, pretty damn tense. This book (much like The Hourglass Throne before it) is incredibly tense and uneasy.

I loved this novella and it made me really excited for the Magnus series and the main series going forward.

I need to go back and re-read this book

The main issue I remember having with this book is the loss of Quinn's powers. I think he is the most interesting character in this series so him losing his powers is kinda a let down. I also think I would have enjoyed reading this more if I was reading it at the same time as THT since it is taking place at the same time. I understand that it is a novella meant to fill in smoe of the gaps that could not be explored during THT but knowing how this part of the story ends (for the most part) takes away a bit of the enjoyment.

I've been eagerly awaiting this book since the author originally mentioned he'd had to remove Anna, Max and Quinn's major plot points from The Hourglass Throne. I loved this. It was excellent. Seeing those three tighter was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend reading this in tandem with THT at the points that Edwards mentions at the beginning of The Eidolon. Definitely essential reading for any Tarot Sequence fan!
