Thé follow up to the last sun I needed. Love these three kiddos and I would personally give anything to follow them for a trilogy.

This book is a companion novella about the parallel experiences of side characters in the third Tarot Sequence novel: The Hourglass Throne by KD Edwards. I don't think it stands as a story on its own so it's best experienced after reading or while reading that book.
That being said, I love the characters and what this novella reveals, especially one certain plot twist, that makes me really excited to read the fourth book when it comes up. I would recommend this if you enjoy the main series itself.

The Eidolon is the companion short novel to the Tarot Sequence’s third book The Hourglass Throne and the start of a new spin-off series Magnus Academy. This book follows what was happening with the younger cast Max, Quinn and Anna during the events of the third book which was alluded to but never shown.
First and foremost, it is important to know that this book is intricately related to the plot of the third book and is not a standalone and is not at all a good entry point into either series. The Eidolon should be read alongside or after The Hourglass Throne. Personally, I would say it might be good to follow along the events chronologically (as The Eidolon states which chapter here corresponds with which on The Hourglass Throne). As it has been a few months since I read book 3, I did have some recollection issues while reading this.
That being said, it was wonderful to be able to return to this world and this found family cast. I appreciated that we got new insight into the younger cast as we get perspectives from all three of them. Quinn’s was a particular favorite of mine as we finally get to see what it means to have his prophetic powers and how he deals with it. I really liked Max’s perspective as well because he is my favorite character of the three and it displayed his maturity and particular relationship with Quinn. Anna still needs to grow on me.
Even though I basically knew what was going to happen already having read The Hourglass Throne, this book still managed to bring out a few tears from me especially during one scene mid-book. There are also still a few surprises within that promises to impact the story of the main series. While reading the book, it does end up feeling like it was meant to be in that third book and was just separated due to length issues. I am optimistic though that future books in this spin-off series will no longer feel like that.
The Eidolon is a nice return to the world of The Tarot Sequence that puts focus on the younger cast and the events they went through that was left out of The Hourglass Throne.
*Thank you to KD Edwards for sending me an eARC.

Quinn was my favorite character in the first three books of The Tarot Sequence so I was really excited to pick this one up!
I love the dynamic between him, Max, and Anna. I think they have such excellent sibling energy and I like the way they both assist and challenge each other.
KD Edwards said this was meant to be part of The Hourglass Throne and got cut. So I’m really happy that he took the time to write The Eidolon because this adds so much to the overall narrative. There’s quite a few important things that happened “behind the scenes” which are explored better here like Quinn’s gift, the information they uncovered about Lady Time, and Anna’s aspect.
I can’t wait to read more from these three (soon to be four?) and see where there part of the story goes. This is such an interesting and creative world. I’ll stay in it as long as Edwards keeps writing. Hopefully it’s a really long time.
