Took me five years to get through this one which gives some idea of its pacing compared to previous entries.
It’s good it just felt absolutely solid. The books have the constant side quests of the games but in TOTS the side quests were just dull in comparison. But I did it!

Well this was a whole lot of nothing. I was so bored I skimmed entire chapters, after having paused for a month because this story has just been making me so angry with how its written. Honestly, this and Baptism of Fire could have been condensed into one installment.
Graphic: Death, Violence, Blood, Suicide attempt
Moderate: Drug use, Misogyny, Rape, Sexual assault

This is riddled with spoilers so beware
Yennefer’s character growth in this book is insane. Even though she can never bear children of her own, she’s taken on the role of mother awfully well. And the fact she only cracked when Vilgefortz used Geralt??? Burry me six feet under please.
Geralt on the other hand is getting a bit annoying, but also understandably so? I feel like I can’t even be annoyed at him because he’s thought of Ciri as his daughter for ages now and what parent wouldn’t go that far to save his child?
Scared for the next one ngl.

The quest to find Ciri continues. This time the story is more focused on Ciri herself, and she has quite a character progression throughout the book, continuing from her stint as a bit of a trigger-happy gangster in the previous book.
Through her, we're introduced to some really interesting characters, such as the old, reclusive, ex-professor Vysogota, and one of, if not the most ruthless, villainous, a-holes in the whole Witcher universe: Leo Bonhart.
The story progresses much quicker than in the previous book, but still, there are moments where one would feel it's dragging and wandering a bit too much. Especially during those side-quests that Geralt and the co. gets sidetracked by. But most of those scenes are fun and enjoyable, so not complaining.
The highlight is definitely the final chapter, which is just brilliant. The final fight is so darn cool, it might be my favourite in the series so far.

The end of Ciri's time with the Rats, meeting with Vysogota, Leo Bonhart, and the journey to the tower of the swallow. Her side of the story stays pretty dark while Geralt and co get the wry humor. Ciri begins thinking of herself as a Witcher, with a lot more intentional righteous fury than Geralt even though their opinions about humans being near as bad as monsters are the same.

I know this series spawned some truly awesome video games but if it could be a little less “side-questy” and a little more get back to the plot it’d be nice.
Wow, I really liked this one! The story was very compelling and made me not want to stop reading it. Some scenes were rather gruesome, but served as a way to construct a very interesting story. Love reading these books, makes me want to player Witcher 3 again!
