This took me months to finish. Lots of meandering and focus on tertiary characters and events. Ciri's story isn't very engaging though there are a couple of scenes that I'll remember, especially

the final ice-skating slaughter, which is so silly

. I don't appreciate the choice to have different narration styles and biblical passages, or suggestions to modern archaeology and telecommunication...this really takes me out of the fantastical setting and elements. Hoping that there are reasons for this stuff and it all comes together by the final novel, but I am pretty unenthused about finishing this series at this point.

To me these books are starting to read more like the appendixes of Lord of the Rings than like actual novels with a plot. There's a TON of world building in here but not that much story. I WANT to like them more than I actually like them.
