I haven't read this since I was a kid and on re-reading it is just as good if not better than I remember as we follow Mole, Rat, Badger and Toad on their adventures getting out and about in the world, making friends and causing a heady mix of mischief and trouble, especially Toad! Grahame brings the natural world to life with his characters and combines this with various aspects of the human world seamlessly, even Toad car fascination seems perfectly normal in his hands. All I would say is that if yoou haven't read this, you should, if you read it years ago, you need to read it again and if you read it recently, good work. An absolute classic for young and not so young alike.

I loved this book as a kid and love it still as an adult. The characters are lovable and charming and their adventures are fantastic and wonderful and enjoyable. I love the fact that it avoids the usual good vs evil stories and shows a group of friends going out and having fun.

A relaxing spring time read with some really funny bits. It was very slow though and got quite repetitive towards the end.
I feel sorry for Kenneth Grahame's wife because he clearly regarded women with contempt. For the most part they weren't mentioned at all (none of the animals were female) and when they were mentioned it was rudely. There was also a racial slur typical of the time period but jarring nonetheless and some fatphobia to be aware of.

I honestly don’t know how a children’s book made it on the Top 100 books everyone must read, but I just could not find myself paying attention whatsoever that it would have been unfair to give a rating.

I never read this as a child, I can't even remember hearing of it though that seems unlikely. Having read it at 54, I can't help but wonder how different my life would've turned out had I read it at a young age.

Just marvelous, playful, thoughtful, insightful, and warm like a cozy blanket I would expect to find (and be offered) in Rat's home.

Absolutely love this book and can see re-reading this many, many times.
