OMG, yes, yes yes!! I loved this book so freaking much! I mean it’s a hockey romance with the grumpy/sunshine trope. Add in the found family aspect as well as the autism and celiac disease rep, what’s not to love?
My heart hurt so much for Harper in this book. You could tell just how alone she felt, even when she was around her friend group. She’s such a beautiful soul that seeing the struggles she had and the issues she dealt with on a daily basis was just plain rough. But let me tell you, her character and the type of person that is really shone through when she was around Mason’s little brother Scottie. Her compassion and understanding when it came to him made me love her even more. And let’s face it, I think we can all credit Scottie with being the one to bring Harper and Mason together.
Speaking of Mason, that grumpy man stole my heart even when he was being an asshole. Having an autistic brother isn’t easy but the way that Mason loves Scottie and wants to be there for him no matter what is enough to make any girl swoon hard. Then when he finally pulls his head out of his ass and realizes exactly what Harper means to him? Yeah, he bulldozed right past everything to make her his and keep her, including standing up to her asshole of a father.
Seriously, I feel like each book in this series gets better and better and I can’t wait to see what L.A. Cotton has in store for us next!

“Mason Steele was the storm I never saw coming, but by God, if I didn’t mind being swept up in its wreckage.”
On Thin Ice is Harper and Mason’s story, who we met in the first book of the series. Right when they meet, Mason instantly dislikes Harper, as he assumes she’s just another puck bunny, but he does feel a pull towards her. Harper has emotional trauma from her terrible relationship with her father, so all she wants is to be wanted and loved. Mason doesn’t want any attachments, as he devotes all his spare time to his mother and autistic brother. When he learns that Harper is volunteering at his brothers program, he gets to see she is more than he assumed. As much as he tries to fight their attraction, he can’t, so they agree on one night together to work each other out of their systems. But we all know that never works.
I loved how the characters brought out the best in each other, Harper showing Mason he could have more than he thought, and him showing her she deserved to be loved for who she is. The progression of their relationship felt really real. The other characters brought great humour and banter and I’m so looking forward to the next book in this series!

Mason Steele is an incredible hockey player with the weight of the world on his shoulders that has him focused on what is important and relationships are not included. Mason tries to upfront and honest even if sometimes he is completely wrong like he was with Harper and you want to smack him around for that, but he is jaded and has his reasons. He is an incredible son and older big brother that does everything for family because to him family and hockey are all that matters. One thing I loved was he wasn’t this big player flaunting conquests around like some hockey players, but he kept his extra curricular discreet and straight forward. Harper liked to say whatever was on her mind, was stronger than she thought, but carried so many wounds from the way her family treated her, but she gave Mason just as good as he did and their anger towards each other was so intense you just knew it would combust once they acted on the tension. The emotions and insecurities with both characters are so real they shred your heart and pulling for them to find their own happiness. Scottie, Mason’s brother was the glue that held everyone and everything together and the way Mason was with him melted my heart. This book was really emotional and full of misconceptions each character has for each other, but it is full of heart and true family that is created by those who stand by you and not always blood.

LOVING this series, and love the grumpy-sunshine tropes! Mason was SUCH a grump, so he took a minute for me to warm up to- but the way he was with his family was just adorable, and how he was at the end of this story once he got over his grumpiness and connected with Harper. And fortunately Harper as some steel. I really ADORED her! Both of these two have some issues, separate and together, but I loved watching them fall and reconnecting with our other characters. And Scottie -GAH, stole my heart. Great addition to this series that I'm love- LA Cotton's sports are always my favs!
Oh man this book! I love all of Lianne's series that she writes, every book gets better in every series and this one is no different. I Iove the banter between all the guys, Connor and Noah have me in stitches trying to push Mason's buttons. He really is a tough nut to crack and I didn't think Harper would do it but she broke through his armour and it was amazing to read these two flourish together. They didn't even realise that they needed each other. I absolutely adore these two together and how Harper is with Mason's little brother Scottie warmed my heart. I got every emotion reading this book I honestly couldn't put it down ❤️ I would love a Mason and Noah sandwich please Lianne
LA Cotton delivers a superior story in the Lakeshore U world, showcasing stronger writing, well-developed characters, and a well-paced narrative in ON THIN ICE. With Mason and Harper at the center of an enemies-to-lovers dynamic, this book explores their journey and tackles themes of personal growth, redemption, and unexpected love.
The writing in ON THIN ICE stands out, displaying remarkable growth from the previous full length book in this series. The narrative flows smoothly, striking a balance between introspective moments and exciting character encounters, resulting in a quick read being that the readers won't be able to stop turning the pages.
Mason and Harper are a standout couple, they are so well fleshed out and layered. The enemies-to-lovers trope is beautifully executed, with their initial clashes grounded in genuine differences that create a strong foundation for their eventual romance. Their development from adversaries to lovers is both thrilling and believable, keeping readers captivated throughout the book. Mason's allure and Harper's resilience make them a dynamic pair, and their interactions are charged with tension and sizzling chemistry. Reading what both characters have gone through in their lives already at this young age makes the reader root for each to get their happy ending, and luckily they can find that in each other.
One of the book's highlights is the character of Scottie, Mason’s brother. The relationships he forms with other characters are endearing and make you appreciate this found family the hockey team has provided. Cotton handles Scottie's autism with respect and sensitivity, allowing him to become a cherished presence in the story.
The spice elements in ON THE ICE are just so damn good, and these scenes really show the reader the impact and emotional stakes of this connection between Mason and Harper. The tension between the two main characters creates an irresistible pull, making it difficult not to feel invested in their journey. Mason is described and written in such an attractive way that made him practically leap off the page. His decision making skills however were a bit rusty, and caused issues where there didn’t need to be, which made me simultaneously want to slap him and root for him to come to his senses.
While the book excels in various aspects, as mentioned, one minor hiccup lies in the occasional repetitive dialogue. Some conversations feel redundant, reiterating certain points or sentiments unnecessarily. I found myself thinking “haven’t I read this line before?” and I had, a few pages earlier. It was definitely a mind trick but did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the story in a significant way.
ON THIN ICE is a well-crafted college hockey romance offers a satisfying blend of tension, personal growth, and heartfelt romance. Mason and Harper's journey from enemies to lovers is deeply rooted, making their connection all the more thrilling to read. If you’re looking for a quick sports romance, this is the perfect one for you. It can be read as a standalone but reading BREAK THE ICE builds up the characters for a more well rounded experience.

This book continues the Lakeshore U series written by L.A. Cotton. After Break the Ice, this book is about Harper and Mason. This book was a fascinating read especially considering that Harper and Mason weren’t very fond of each other to begin with. Mason was a character that I fell in love with, because he was close to his family, especially his brother, but he also felt a huge responsibility towards them and that had an impact on the type of character he was and how he saw the people in his life. Harper had a personality that people either embraced or people found annoying, but she didn’t let people change her. I loved reading whether Harper and Mason could overcome their difficulties and become more than just acquaintances. Thank you for the ARC.
** ARC REVIEW **
L.A.!!! You truly know how to write a book!! Just like the previous book, I was completely hooked!! I absolutely LOVED it and cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
First off can we just appreciate the representation for having an estranged relationship with a parent/parents and the AMAZING rep for autism?! This was the FIRST book I have read that had so much rep for autism. Also Scottie is the absolute sweetest kid!
This book was fantastic in every way. The writing was phenomenal & the plot was perfect!
What made this book 20 times better was how Mason & Harper’s characters grew through out the story! Both of them put in a lot of work, ESPECIALLY Mason. Mason was a complete and total asshole until he showed his true colors and he actually turned out to be super sweet and caring and SUPER protective.
I definitely would recommend this book and the series! I can’t wait to see what all the other books hold & how those stories will turn out.

This is a beautiful addition to the Lakeshore U hockey series. At first, I couldn't stand Mason, the grumpy hockey hero, but I gained a deeper understanding of his burdens as the story unfolded. Harper, the coach's daughter with celiac disease, faced challenges and reminded me of one of my best friends who also suffers from this disease. The book beautifully delves into their journey of love amidst complex family dynamics. The side characters and their witty banter added humor, and the found family elements melted my heart. Mason's redemption, in the end, left me satisfied. I must mention that the audio narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter was exceptional. I highly recommend this book!
