Out of Body is a compelling YA sci-fi thriller following Megan, a seventeen-year-old searching for belonging. When she befriends LC, a girl who initially brings her out of her shell, their friendship takes a dark turn after a body swap occurs during a party. The narrative unfolds rapidly, blending elements of horror and sci-fi reminding me of a modern day Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Matrix, and Freaky Friday. Megan's struggle to reclaim her identity builds tension, kept me hooked until the unsettling conclusion. The fast-paced plot moved along, with some digressions that threw me off, does deliver lots twists and turns, making this a must-read for those craving a suspenseful and genre-blending experience. A different type of Speculative fiction that I haven’t read in while.

Out of Body by Nia Davenport is a gripping tale of identity, friendship, and survival. The story follows Megan Allen, who, after a night of partying with her best friend LC, wakes up in a startlingly different reality—literally in LC’s body. This body swap leads Megan down a rabbit hole of secrets that force her to fight for her own life and identity. The story pulls you in immediately, dropping the reader right into the intense night that changes everything for Megan.

I quickly and hungrily devoured this book, eager to see where the story would lead. The pacing is tight, only 266 pages in the ebook version, which made the stakes feel even higher, though I did worry that the conclusion might feel rushed, considering there was a lot to unpack in such a short span.

Without spoiling too much, I will say that the ending was satisfying overall. Out of Body is a compelling read about perseverance, friendship, and self-discovery, wrapped in a fantasy premise that keeps you hooked from start to finish. It gave me just the escape I needed—something fantastical, yet still grounded in personal stakes and growth.
