Good story, HORRIBLE editing

This had potential, it was a really intriguing story. However, the complete lack of editing really ruined it. The characters are fun, and I LOVE how the author captured what anxiety and depression really look like. The cheesy wannabe gang? No. Just no. Don’t try to write about something you clearly have no concept of. The cliche leather jacket with skulls? And the name ‘Creepers’? The worst attempt at creating a gang. Unless the aim was for them to be cheesy wannabes, the author failed tragically.

This book really is like a train wreck you can’t look away from. Please take the time in the future to hire an editor! Intimating instead of intimidating, and using enduring (a verb) as an adjective? Sense in stead of since... the list of errors are endless, and some of the errors were so great they were almost impossible to decipher. A lot of run-on sentences, misuse of punctuation, and misspelled words.

Another major red flag in this book for me was Cami’s view of beauty. She’s Latina, but within the first chapter she immediately called herself ugly and claimed she wished she were white with blonde hair and blue eyes. YIKES! Since when is being white, blonde, or blue eyed the definition of beauty? There was no attempt to explain why Cami felt this way other than a passing remark about her best friend having this appearance. You do realize there are different ideas of beauty aside from the white girl stereotype, right? Was a little insulting to both ethnicities.

If you’re plannings on spending money on this book, don’t. Do yourself a favor and buy a book from an author that actually made the attempt to edit the book.

Gangs and Ghosts by Katie May is a fantastic horror story with massive potential for slow burn reverse harem. With ghosts and spooky haunted houses, an awesome teen MC Camila and a bunch of intriguing guys that come into her life when her and her family move into a new town. I found this so good, it gave me goosebumps and a shiver down my spine in parts. Really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the second book when it comes out!

Would you like to be friends with the shadow man?

Gangs and Ghosts was surprisingly really good! Once I started, I couldn't quite put it down - which I think is putting it mildly. This story is about Cami, who was a pretty unique and interesting character to meet right off the bat. She was adopted, and trust this - her family was just has unique and interesting like her. I laughed so hard whenever her little sister was in the picture. Plus Colt is the typical older brother who also made me laugh from time to time.

Besides her, this is a RH (yay!) and the guys were equally intriguing. We get too meet Tyson, Ian, and Kieran. Ugh Kieran.. I just love that name. Now remember how I mentioned that this was a RH (#ReverseHarem) well, it didn't really feel like one. By that, I mean that this book delivered zero romantic things. Zilch. Nada. It was invisible romance I guess. You could see the little attraction here and there but that's all you will get. Little teasing moments and nothing else.

Other than all of that bittersweet moment, it was still good. I would've like a bit of the romance shit but I guess I'll have to move onto the next book to see if I get a glimpse or two of it.

Confused...

Nothing was really resolved in this book. No real relationships were formed or anything. It left me feeling like this was just half of an actual book. The writing was great and I liked the story line. The author done great with the scary aspect. Just wish we would have had a tiny but if closer that lead into the next book. I’ll read the next book but only to find out what happens.

.....what?

What did I just read? Seriously... what the what? Oh, don’t get me wrong, I loved it! But the ending... the ending! Why would she do that to us without the next book out??! Fair warning, cliff hanger city awaits - and it’s a doozy.

Pros:
- build up. Tension, both the horrific and the romantic kind is slowly built.
- well written. 1st person POV done right.
- anxiety. This author is someone who knows how confusing, and crippling, anxiety can be.

Cons:
- cliffhanger
- MC is a touch dense at times, but what teenager isn’t?

I don’t know exactly what to feel or think about this book. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed this romantic suspense thriller from the author. This book had me at the edge of my seat and constantly thinking what was happening. Half the time, I was debating if Cami is suffering from split personality (Camz as her other violent, dark self). Whenever she closes her eyes, it is Camz who took over and did this horrific murder of those people who have somehow attacks her or that it is really her who was the Shadow Man. I was proven wrong by near the end of the story. I was also thinking if Dorian is really alive or a real person. There is no part in the story that Cami asked someone about Dorian or that she saw him at their school. Also, may I just say that ending was really creepy? There were actual goose bumps on my arms while I was reading it. I cannot wait to read book 2 and find out the answers to some of my questions.

This book is creepy and sad and dark, if you don't like cliffhangers you won't like this book.

I however enjoy a cliffhanger... I enjoyed this book and getting to the end and gasping in horror knowing the story was over.

I liked that the MC was struggling emotionally and was not perfect. She struggled with being loyal and her own self worth, as we all do as teens. I enjoyed her meeting all the fellas and the relationships developing. I loved the family dynamic.

I don't want to go into much more because I don't want to give anything away. This is a great book, give it a chance.

I normally try to read “themed” books this time of year... horror/mystery/suspense in October.
This book definitely fulfilled the creep factor I was looking for! Excited yet also nervous about book 2.

Nail biting and fabulous!

Love the story line and all the characters, this first book is a great layout and written beautifully. I only wish the bed book was out so I could continue reading. You're giving just a little information on the past and each character to keep your imagination going and dying to know what will happen next, well played Katie May, well played.

This is the third time I've come back to read this series. This is the first book of it and I love it. It's scary with different characters. Every one of them has some sort of issue, which is fantastic. Not one of them is perfect, and they all come together to mesh into one heck of a scary story. Books 2 and 3 are just as good. While I probably should have recommended this during Halloween, it's a great series to read anytime.
