it got too boring, there was no exciting plot

Goodreads is punishing me for reading this doesn’t want me to share this review bc it shut down and deleted everything i had to say. So, this (unfortunately) is my second time writing this.

this book was so bad it was ALMOST good.

It was so unnecessarily long for the amount of conflict that there was. The premise was so weak like … just fix the second rink faster like truly what’s the problem. Nate and Stassie’s conflict ends like halfway through. Aaron is terribly written and I have 0 empathy for him. He only exists to be completely unlikable and he just kept getting worse. The dialogue in this was so cringey i’m literally shivering (derogatory) thinking about it. Truly where was the plot.

That being said, I ate up some aspects. No spoilers but the part w/ Stassie on the ice lake? She ate that ONE thing up. Henry was a good character, too. In general Stassie’s relationship w the team was pretty fun. Idk this book was just so easy to read without an ounce of critical thinking needed like thanks for laying out every single detail for me, Hannah Grace.

Overall, though, I wouldn’t recommend this unless you’re looking for an extremely trashy sports romance.

Maybe I'll be a sports person yet?

Icebreaker is not 'good' per say, but it was such a good time to read. Its funny and cliche in all the best ways. Hockey players are big golden retrievers....who will kill you if you mess with their figure skater. Some things are underdeveloped, it's a little long. I don't like the terrible friend, but it is well written and adds depth. There is also TONS of therapy text. The cover is decieving, this book is RAUNCHY. I absolutely loved watching them turn mushy and had so much fun devouring this story. (no, it is not overhyped).

This one surprised me. It was almost a DNF within the first 30%. Stassie was driving me nuts and making me so irritated by her coldness. I kept with it and I’m SO GLAD i did. She changes her tune and I really enjoyed getting to see her soften up and melt that ice and face her fears. Great sports romance!! Side characters were superb and I’m hoping we get more stories with them involved.

I really thought this was going to be a cute written romcom rip-off of The Cutting Edge. But no, this book just made me angry for a number of reasons. Why?

Well first off, it sets up a lot, and I mean A LOT, of characters and relationships that have little to no payoff, and should have been edited out. Nate's one night stand at the beginning of the novel, who is never mentioned again. Or Nate's crush Summer, who is described as a very close friend of Nate's, who pops up later exactly once, solely to make Ana jealous. Or Ana's relationship with Ryan (which, despite her near-constant denials, was definitely a relationship, as they went on dates, shared meals, cuddled, had sleepovers, in addition to having sex). Then there's way too many hockey teammates to keep track of, and no real reason to bother. But whatever, if this was my only issue, I wouldn't be so annoyed.

Ana spends most of the book mad at Nate, even after they get together. But, the reasons she is mad at him only tertiarily have anything to do with him, and she never bothers being mad at anyone else her anger could and should be applied to, such as Nate's teammates or her skating partner Aaron. Nate is almost too perfect, and she treats him terribly. She also toys with him by befriending and flirting with all of his teammates, especially his roommates — sitting on their laps, sleeping in their rooms, joking about how she loves them, and even initiating a cruel prank that requires all of Nate's friends to lie to him and throw a party with Ana at Nate's house behind his back while he's looking for her elsewhere. So why is he so into her? I honestly can't figure it out.

There's also frequent mentions of how long Ana has been in therapy, along with how knowledgeable and experienced she is with therapy techniques, and how well she is doing with it. But then she repeatedly gives a free pass to her clearly toxic skating partner, who spends the entire story trying to control and gaslight her.

On a different note unrelated to the plot, at points it was difficult to follow the narrative because each character was referred to by multiple nicknames, as well occasionally by their last name.

I'm giving this two stars instead of one, because I do feel there is potential here with some severe editing. I'm hoping this is an earlier work of the author's and they improve going forward, but I doubt I'll read another book by them to find out.

Cute and spicy.
