I felt torn about how to rate this book. Unlike everyone else giving it 5 stars, I wavered between 3 and 4. I thought the quality of the story and the writing was just 3 stars but the relationship between Decker and Delaney was so well thought out that it deserved a 4…

Was it an awesome book? Of course. I think if I hadn’t read Rachel Vincent’s My Soul To Take I could have easily given it 5 stars. Too bad Megan Miranda didn’t get this out a couple years earlier. It just didn’t seem original. The”pull of death” was too much like the banshee screaming Kaylee did. I kept thinking, “huh, this seems familiar.”

Decker and Delaney’s complicated relationship was so awesome though. There are so many books where the love interest is set in stone and we all know from page one what is going to happen with them. That is not the case in this book. You really don’t know what’s up until the very end. (I’m not going to tell you so you’ll just have to read it.) This was so refreshing!

In the end: It really was a good book. I just wish it was more original.

I did not expect to be obsessed with this, but here I am so

Delaney should be dead. After falling through the ice and staying underwater for an impossible eleven minutes, she survives. But not all is as it seems, everything around her is different, everyone she knows is acting strange, including her best friend Decker. And there’s a new mysterious boy in town named Troy who may know her better than anyone.

A quick and captivating story. For being over 10 years old, it was still an interesting read. There were some themes and tropes that were typical of the 2010s (the mysterious new boy in town, the love triangle, etc.) I did guess the twist very early on, but was still enjoyable. One theme that was very reflective of today’s society is women not being listened to about their body in the medical field and often being called ‘crazy’ or ‘overacting’ instead of being taken seriously by family, doctors and other professionals. Some other elements of the story seemed outdated, but I’m still interested enough to read the sequel.

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author, and I don’t think it’ll be the last. However this was my first YA book by Megan Miranda, I know they typically write books more focused towards an Adult audience, so I’m unsure if there’s more YA titles to read from them, outside of this series.

This is one that has been sitting on my shelf for around 10 years! I finally decided if I didn’t read it in 2025, it was due for the Unhaul Pile. I was glad I got around to it, and flew through it in only 2 days.

I need time to process this. Review to come.

Delaney Maxwell falls on an iced over lake, fracturing the ice, and for 11 minutes, she is underwater until her friends manage to pull her out. Her body had shut down, and yet she wakes up in the hospital seemingly fine. Doctors are stumped; she defied death, and with no real side effects to speak of. Even though she looks and seems normal, Delaney begins having weird sensations… she is pulled and drawn to people who are dying. She can sense their imminent deaths. No one knows her secret until she meets Troy, who also almost died and now has the same eerie abilities. Delaney wants to try and prevent the deaths she senses, but Troy has other ideas…

I’ve been wanting to read this book since it first came out last year, and finally got around to it since Megan Miranda will be a part of this year’s Teen Book Festival, for which I am a committee member. I am so glad I finally picked this book up – it was totally worth the wait! This book had a dark and eerie feeling to it from the first page on, and I was very intrigued by Delaney’s ability. I really liked the relationships between a lot of the characters and felt that they were very real, including her sort of friendship with Janna, with whom she is competing for valedictorian. There’s also Decker, her neighbor/best friend/love interest, and there’s all sorts of tension there. The romantic element was interesting to watch unfold, but I also really liked their friendship and seeing it through all of its highs and lows. It’s full of jealousy, hurt feelings, but also love and true friendship. Troy, the guy with the same ability as Delaney, added a lot of suspense and conflict to the novel, which made for some exciting and scary moments. Even though their abilities seem supernatural, the story felt very real to me, with a lot of normal teenage feelings, insecurities, and thoughts in addition to the extraordinary ability. I’d definitely recommend this to fans of dark YA novels and love triangles (maybe squares? – lots of potential love interests here!). I’m very anxious to read her newest book, Hysteria, and really excited for Fracture's sequel to come out next year!

Fracture is an exciting, romantic novel that will keep you at the edge of your seat. I realize this is a love or hate book, but I loved it.
Delaney Maxwell was just a normal girl-until she died. Delaney fell through a frozen lake and stayed under water until her best friend Decker Phillips pulled her up 11 minutes later. Delaney was dead, she stayed in a coma until she finally woke up 6 days later. She was a miracle. But Delaney woke up with a strange ability. She was draw to dying people. Then Delaney discovered Troy Varga, a boy with the same ability. With his help she tries to figure out how to live with her ability.
Fracture was an amazing novel filled with romance, suspense, and action. I absolutely loved Decker, he made the book SO much better. I thought the book was written well, but the plot was unique and very clever. The story was always moving at a good pace and just when you think you can relax Miranda throws you a curve ball that will put you back on the edge of your seat. I was so excited when I found out that there's going to be a sequel. I'll be sure to buy it the second it comes out. Overall, Fracture is an amazing novel that will change the way you think about death.

I was apprehensive before starting this book. The blurb didn't sell it to me but I went for it anyway. And I was very pleasantly surprised! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn't give it five stars because there was something missing, it didn't feel intricate enough. But there was nothing wrong with what was there.

I enjoyed the story and the characters. The ending was great. And the idea was very interesting. I would recommend it to friends and am glad I gave it a chance!
