The plot of this installment of the series wasn't necessarily my favorite, but the characterization was AMAZING.

Honestly, the idea of a demon class of faeries felt like a reach, and I never cared an awful lot for them or their history or their plight, although of course I always like magic. The same goes for the addition of Minerva, who was entertaining but another child genius kidnapping a faerie also was a hard sell. Demons, warlocks, time locks, warping, volcanos, time unraveling, etc, etc—good but not great.

However: I LOVED the characters. They have grown and grown and grown since [b:Artemis Fowl|249747|Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1)|Eoin Colfer|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327945104s/249747.jpg|1334778], and it is such a joy to behold. I love that they're friends, I love that they understand one another's strengths, I love that they work together and trust each other and joke together. Butler is wonderful, Artemis is growing up and continues to be hilarious, Holly is fierce and loyal, Mulch is always willing to lend a hand, Foaly is marvelous, and even Minerva, despite not being my favorite to begin with, grew on me.

What fun to read this series as it continues!

A fun fantasy read. Artemis has grown up a bit and is becoming quite a teenager. Not to fear, he's as genius as ever. It was a nice break from my current reading trend.

I really liked what this book added to the world. I liked the addition of the demons and warlocks to the world to add a different kind of magic. I really liked the characters of "N. 1" and Minerva. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Minerva and Artemis' relationship develop
Spoiler especially now that she had 3 years to think about him and she is now technically older than him. Tho I don't know how long that will last they might both be 15 soon
I was a little disappointed how Holly's story turned out I was really looking forward to see her outside the LEPD but it looks like that was all for nothing
Spoiler the way this book ended it clear that she is going to go back and with Sool kicked out during the missing 3 years there is nothing holding her back.

I am really looking forward to the next one to see how the ending of this book will affect the world moving forward.
Spoiler Artemis Fowl with magic is going to be a lot of fun

I'd have given this book four stars
But the ending! Well, it deserves five stars just for the climax.

Artemis Fowl is a boy-genius who enters the hidden world of fairies to wreak havoc...
There are limits to this plot and the middle part of the story seemed like a retelling of book 1. It wasn't bad but felt little repetitive.
But then, the writer brings the climax...
The juxtaposition of science and magic...
The theme is simple, that magic is just another type of energy and it is all science... But actually implementing the theme in a way that we get the flavours of both, science and magic and neither of the two essences is diminished in the process, now that something different. That is the Lost Colony.
