I loved this book. If Buffy had to grow up and get a real job I feel like this would be a good fit for her.

This book was a fun, entertaining read! I've had some trouble with reading a book through lately, and this one really pulled me in. I'm waiting for the next one..

Judith chose this for me as my mother's day present, and I love it. Urban fantasy in the publishing world.

An engaging and absorbing read, but there are more problems with this book the more I think about it.* The prose is excellent, so I have high expectations that in the long run, her plot-point consistency will catch up with it. There was a lot of world crammed into an otherwise fairly focused novel - a nice bit of real-worldlike messiness which led to stray ends here and there.

* [Lots of major spoilers, including of the ending, in this next paragraph!] The sexual exploitation sequence. Was no one concerned their CR relations hire had vanished and now needed replacing? How did Wesley really get that job, given how uncompelling he was? Was his head actually murdered? A pity that the "real" bad guys are so two-dimensional. I was expecting Lucy to come in and take over the police as her method of power; that aspect of her wasn't even mentioned in that sequence. I never did understand what Phil was doing with the train and why it was useful. The poor abused zombies!

Very fun romp with monsters - oops, they prefer to be called coterie. Zoe is back home in New York City after an ill-chosen romantic affair ends her job in North Carolina. She's been unsuccessful at finding another gig and is running out of savings when she stumbles upon a help-wanted ad that sounds perfect for her: an upstart publishing firm needs an editor for travel guides, travel guides for coterie. She talks her way into the job as her experience makes her almost perfect for it; the only problem is she's human. Her boss is a vampire, and she deals with various beings new to her including demons and deities, zombies, sprites, and golems. There is a cute (human) neighbor next door, but you can't just talk with most humans about this hidden city-within-the-city. When troubles start up, Zoe finds out that her past may not be entirely behind her, but she has a book to get written.

I remembered enjoying this but unusually for me didn't remember a lot of the plot details, so got to enjoy it again at a more leisurely pace.

A lot of fun, I planned this to be my multi night relax read and instead stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to finish it in one sitting. Witty and snarky with a fun twist on several different mythologies and I love how beautifully it is integrated into the NYC we see.
