I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook, read by Lolly Adefope. It was fun, and at a times a little scary. I had seen the movie first (and rewatch it almost every Halloween), and I have to say I'm glad of two changes they made in the movie, simply because the book ending was just too sad for me.

Very nice book. It could be a bit scary in the beginning, but soon I understood it's more light-hearted and cute. Loveable characters.

I'm sorry, this was so funny to me šŸ˜‚. The entire scenario that goes down is so outlandish and the witches were sending me. Grandma was a real one for holding it down the way she did.

I don't know how I never read this as a child, but this was fun.

I haven’t read this book in forever. I really wanted to read it before the new movie comes out.

This is literally the story of ā€œa taste of your own medicineā€. We follow a little boy...omg I honestly don’t know if we ever find out his name...who’s grandma knows everything there is to know about witches. They are evil and want to rid the world of all children.

He lives with his grandma after his parents die and then grandma almost dies. They go on a trip to the seashore. The boy is training his two mice to do tricks when the ballroom he’s hiding in fills in with all these women. SURPRISE it’s the witches. He hears all their secret plans about turning children into mice and the recipe to make the potion.

His mice run loose and the high witch kicks them (and we NEVER see them again). The witches sniff him out and turn him (like they did another boy) into a mouse. He can still talk so he runs to his grandma who straight up is super chill about it. This grandma is awesome. She lowers him into the grand witches room to steal some potion.

He sneaks into the kitchen and puts it in the soup and all the witches turn into mice! They won!! They head back to Norway and the grandma tells the boy he’ll only live for about 9 more years and he’s like that’s cool I don’t want to live without you. She makes these cool ladders so he can get everywhere and makes plans for them to rid the world of the witches. She’s seriously so cool.

I’m just super disappointed that the other mice didn’t stick around. Then he would have had friends. Although grandma is super chill and awesome. Loved reading this again as an adult.

One of the most beautifully written children's stories of all time. It begs to be read aloud (possibly using various creepy voices).

Such an adorable book. I sometimes wonder where Roald Dahl got all his ideas from.

The protagonist, an unnamed English boy, has his parents killed in a car accident when he's just 9 years old, but luckily, he has his loving Norwegian Grandmama to take care of him. And that's when he's introduced to the world of witches.
I was paranoid (and young) enough to look for wide nose rims, blue spit, wigs, and glove wearing women while I was reading this book. Haha. The mice (William and Mary), the Grand High Witch's accent (Inkland, the rolling r's, the v's), the poems, Bruno, Formila 86, crack me up to this very day!

The most refreshing thing about this book is the ending. You obviously keep reading, expecting a happily-ever-after after the Grand High Witch of All the World is dead. You expect the mouse to turn back into a boy, but that never happens. All we see is enormous love between the child and the grandmother. In fact, my favorite part of the book is when the mouse-boy tells his grandma that he's happy that he just has 9 more years to live as he can't imagine having someone else look after him.

Wowcha. I have finally found a Roald Dahl book that I *actually* like!

This book was really fun and exciting to read. I found the pacing really good and the narration was such a good choice.

This was a surprisingly quick read, even though it was quite long for a children’s book (200 pages).

However, there are a couple of problematic elements. The main one is that this book encourages children not to bath... because witches can smell you more if you are clean? Okay.

Also, this is a bit outdated and it’s noticeable. The main problem is about witches having a bald head, because no regular women would have bald heads. This isn’t taking into account people who are bald from illness or who choose to have bald heads. However, that’s just me being a bit picky, so I’m not deducting any points for that.

Overall, this was an enjoyable story. I would recommend to fans of Dahl or people wanting to get into his work.
