I read these Mary Higgins Clark books because my Aunt gave me a stack of them. They are a quick read, and yes a page turner, but not really my cup of tea. Capital politics and intrigue, and a past they will catch up to all the characters.
Meh. This isn't terrible, but it's also not wonderful, and it hasn't aged well. Clark is fairly pretentious. No one's hair is groomed or cut or styled, it's "barbered". When the heroine's life hangs in the balance, paramedics don't talk about her pulse, but about her "pulsebeat". I remember 1984 and I don't remember anyone talking like that. The plot is obvious, though perhaps it wasn't as trite when it was written. MHG remains an author I will read if/when I'm given one of her books, but who I won't seek out or pay for.
I feel a little disappointed in Stillwatch. As much as I love Clark, this novel didn't really do justice for me, it didn't hold the same feelings I have when I read her other crime books. Maybe it was because of the story line in politics that didn't do it for me, I don't know.
