"You can buy happiness off the rack - but sadness is tailor-made just for you."
This is Shaheen Batt's autobiography, describing her experiences with depression.
This is a very well written and to the point narration of multiple mental health issues like eating disorder, suicidal thoughts and anxiety and how she manages to deal with them.
I liked how this was just HER story and not filled with typical bollywood references involving her family.
"living with depression isn't easy but loving someone who lives with depression isn't easy either."

”Sometimes I wonder if I built and moulded my entire personality in a way that would better help conceal my worst days. I wonder if over time I purposefully grew quiet so people wouldn’t notice when I inevitably stopped talking. I wonder if I carefully constructed the reputation of a recluse so they wouldn’t be surprised when I disappeared for months on end.”
^^ This quote pretty accurately describes where I’m at right now. Bhatt shares with us her personal account of what depression feels like to her. I found many parts of relatable. Especially when she discussed the concept of death and the transience of life. I’d recommend this to people if they want to understand what it’s like to have depression because it encapsulates most of what people who have generally experience. It doesn’t hold everything since everyone experiences it differently and there are no set symptoms, but Bhatt describes it in a way that can clearly reach to someone who doesn’t have it themselves. It is also a quick read too. 3 stars.

i really loved this memoir, it was insightful, and in a way —as someone who just started therapy, and has depression— gave me hope. and i believe it was very informative too, to see so clearly how depression doesn’t pick and choose who to attack, that even the luckiest of people can be burdened by depression, also in a weird way made me come to a sudden realization that depression is kind of like a spectrum. some have a mild depression, some have a major depression, and every person that has it has experienced things unique to their own.

This book helped me understand myself a little better. It felt like a great therapy session. I loved the amount of thought and effort that has been given to understand and then explain anxiety, shame, death and all the other feelings that come along with depression.

Shaheen Bhatt's account of her childhood living with depression and anxiety was relatable for me. I loved how she didn't hold back details and gave a realistic account of living with mental illnesses.
Graphic: Eating disorder, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, and Suicidal thoughts

This is neither a memoir not an autobiography, but someone's innermost thoughts and her endeavors to understand her own situation in life. Some parts of this very small book was thought provoking, some parts relate-able and some parts were kinda boring.
