This is definitely gonna be my new go-to recommendation for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the world of classics. Both the story and the writing are so fun to read and I couldn’t begin to guess the last time I got to read a book with illustrations. Though written as a children’s book a lot of this would’ve gone over my head as a kid but made me genuinely laugh now. Highly recommend

i am on chapter 6.

“Ever drifting down the stream—
Lingering in the golden gleam—
Life, what is it but a dream?”

I mean, what more can I say about Alice than what’s already been said? This was a beautiful way to end these two books that says it infinitely better than I ever could. These kooky tales hold a near and dear space in my heart because I grew up quite literally obsessed with Alice In Wonderland the Disney movie and shortly after became obsessed with the novels, too.  Now, I own up to ten editions in hardback and always on the lookout for unique editions—old or new alike. I develop a deeper emotional bond and love for Alice and all of the wild Wonderland characters every time I reread these wonderful stories. It’s a confusing, fast paced trip, but it’s a wholeheartedly fun and whimsical one nonetheless.

This is so funny! Unfair to the book but I feel like the bits that aren't overdone in adaptation are my favourite just because I can't recite them word for word already. Part of my high rating is that granddad used to recite the Walrus and the Caroenter to me before bed. Such a lot of clever language, parody and metafiction yet not pretentious at all - instead rather proud to be silly! I loved the poetry and illustrations. No wonder it's such an influence on art of the 20th/21st century! It could easily be another Wizard of Oz - child responds to random events - but the way that Alice constantly argues back with logic creates enough conflict and a kind of dreamlike logic.

I found these stories quite funny at times. I enjoyed Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland more than Through the Looking Glass, but they were both still entertaining. It’s interesting to see where the movie adaptations took inspiration from and how Disney’s cartoon version of Alice in Wonderland is really just a combination of these two stories. I also found it funny that the only repeating characters besides Alice and Dinah were the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, although they do go by slightly different names in Through the Looking Glass.
