I love Rig and Ginka so so so much. This book was so much fun. I've described this to others as the perfect combination of "Star Wars" and "Arcane" but better. I was using yellow tabs to mark all of the times the book made me laugh aloud, and I ran out of tabs pretty quickly. If I could force everyone I know to read this, I would. I have convinced my local bookstore to put this on their shelves, and I am currently trying to get this book added to the curriculum for my school's Science Fiction course (so that people will be quite literally required to read this mwahahahaha). Please read this, it's criminally underrated.

a lot of action & incredibly interesting world (inc places and planets, sociopolitical landscape, diverse characters of human-adjecent species, and scifi tech); the main story is intertwined with another main character's past, which reads very pleasantly; there's a lot of emotion in characters and i cried a few times

-
there are very minor mispellings or editing errors; personally i didnt find the last act convincing; sometimes the author doesn't include a character's description or only snippets are present later in the story, which made it a bit harder for me to imagine them, given not all were human

I adored this book! The characters were wonderfully fleshed out, the worldbuilding was interesting, and the plot (while making use of some clear tropes) was engaging and kept me invested. Rig and Ginka are the badass reluctant-best-friend duo everyone needs, and I absolutely loved both of their character arcs.
The ending felt a bit too perfectly wrapped up, as I felt the story had sequel/spin-off potential and would have wanted to see more from the characters and the galaxy Pierlot has built, but overall very entertaining and satisfying read.

This is a really fun space opera that seriously fumbles the ending, but being a debut, I won't dock it too hard for choking on the last few chapters.  On the up side, the characters and humor are delightful, and we get a primary cast of all non-humans in a human-dominated society, which is really cool.  The world is fascinating, even if we didn't really get to see as much of its depth as I would have liked.  Unfortunately, the plotting is a bit simplistic with a lot of major ... twists?  I guess? ... being foreshadowed with all the subtlety of an approaching firetruck.  This is mostly because a lot of supposedly highly competent characters are, as depicted on the page, somehow also the densest and most clueless people who have ever lived, and that includes protagonist Rig.  There is plenty here that shows great promise for this author's writing career, which I intend to follow, but readers looking for sci-fi with depth may find themselves gravely dissatisfied.

A fun space adventure novel set in a forever war between 3 factions whose motivations and backdrops seem somewhat thin but are good enough for a relatively low scopes, tight cast adventure such as this one. It feels like the pacing and writing could be polished a bit and some portions are longer than I wished but the awkward bits never really get in the way for long enough to detract from the Firefly-ish, Han Solo-ish feeling story.
