I stumbled across this book and must say it is one of the best books I have ever read. Many of the characters were relatable, and their events significantly impacted me. Lincoln Rhyme is a strong person, regardless of his current condition, and his mental capabilities are the factor for his success as an investigator. It was admirable even how he came to some conclusions from the little evidence they found on the case. When he was under pressure and the situation seemed bad Rhyme still had the steadfastness to make the decisions. For me, the character who made the most powerful impression on me was Amelia Sachs. Her mentality and intuition are something that not every person has. The way she sticks to her mind and fights for what she thinks is right can be described as a strength and a powerful sense of morality.

Lincoln Rhyme goes to North Carolina to have surgery (risky surgery which could give him a small amount of movement but could also kill him). While there, he is contacted by the cousin of one of his NYPD colleagues from New York. Jim Bell is the town sheriff and is organising a man hunt for a young boy, Garrett Hanlon, and the woman he kidnapped. Amelia Sachs "walks the grid" in various crime scene sites and reports back to Rhyme. Garrett Hanlon is obsessed by insects and has learned quite a few tricks from them about disguise - so he is not easy to catch. Even once caught though, Sachs is not happy with the result and things really start to get interesting.

People believe what they need to believe to get them through the day.

It’s pretty good. I like Amelia for her impulsion  actually. Also the past of the boy makes me sad and cry a little (forgive me being so emotional)
