The Empty Chair by Jeffery Deaver

With the signature suspense and multiple twist-endings of a Deaver thriller, The Empty Chair is a fun book. The pace is not quite as good as the first two Rhyme novels, and there's not quite as much criminalist brilliance, but it's got the same old charm.

Outstanding! This series is so good! I thought that I had this one figured out, but not even close. The twists and turns just keep on going! Twists, on twists on twists. I love the deeper character development of Rhyme and Sachs as well. Can't wait for the next one 😊

Fast read, kept you involved. I like the evolving love story of Rhyme and Sachs.

What I didn't like were too many plot twists and catching the killer so early in the book.

A great addition to this ridiculously good series - 5*

I've had a little time to digest this book and I'm still buzzing. This series is undeniably good; it actually astounds me every single time I read a book of this series. How can Deaver be so good? How can he continue this momentum throughout this series? This makes me so excited for the rest of the series. (I'm so ready for the Stone Monkey.)

At the heart of this plot is Amelia and Lincoln's relationship. There's no longing glances or physical contact but their actions reflect their love and devotion for each other - it pains me so much. Deaver's writing is brilliant. Usually, the relationship is ruined by the plot or vice versa but in this book, it is not the case at all. The relationship enhances the plot and the structure of the story. I feel so emotional when I read this series because of how far its come.

Lincoln is still ace. I love the lists he makes with Thom; I do miss the table from the first book (and I hope for its return). The research and dedication into the plot is unbelievable; Deaver works so hard on it. Deaver's red herrings and his twists and turns constantly keeps me on edge and on my toes. I've never guessed the murderer/perpetrator yet and I'm not disappointed in myself because I want Rhyme to be better than me. I like to listen to his thought processes and I like him analysing the evidence - it's so brilliant.

The Insect Boy, who is the suspected perpetrator in the novel, is completely new and different from the rest of the books. He was terrifying and his obsessions were so precise. Wow.

I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH.
I'm ready, Deaver!

I almost put this book down. The first 60% of this book was a long setup. Best past of the book is last 20% - the twist at the end, whoa! Glad I stuck with it.
