Reading these books for the first time and find them delightful, though the characters can be a little naive at times and tend to jump into things without really thinking about it! I enjoyed it though and was a nice pleasant little listen.

This was disappointing, it read more like a rough draft instead of her other books I've enjoyed.

I think I was too old to read this book.

The main character was beyond irritating. I wished the curse was for longer than 2 months so we didn't spend the entire book obsessing over every man she came across. If it had been longer and her hoped and died some what, I think her focus wouldn't have been consumed by the Curse and it would have been much more enjoyable.

If I read the word tingling again, I'll throw up.

The start of the story seemed incredibly forced. As if, Gail had this idea she loved, but didn't know how to make it happen and just winged it. It was a story that I hoped started cringe and got better.

Unfortunately it didn't.

I started this book as it is meant to be a prequal to Ella Enchanted and I hoped it would be as amazing as that was. Unfortunately it fell incredibly flat and I spent the majority of the time wishing it was over.

I was so excited when I first learned about this book. Ella Enchanted was one of my favorite books in middle school, and the movie is my favorite comfort movie (to be fair, I saw it before I read the book). So, when i found out that the author was writing a prequel I just had to read it. Unfortunately, I didn't really care for this story at all.

I didn't really care for Evie as a main character. I thought she was a little rude and kind of manipulative. I mean, I get that she's supposed to be 15ish and she was turned into an ogre, but I couldn't connect to her. I didn't care for any of the side characters either which is unfortunate. All of them treated Evie so cruelly when she was an ogre and I couldn't get past that.

The romance (and by that I mean who Evie ends up with at the end) in this book was very lackluster as well. It honestly felt like it came out of nowhere so I couldn't root for the two of them. I get that this is a children's book but a huge plot point of the story is that Evie has to fall in love to become human again. I need to be invested in the characters to give a crap about the plot.

That being said, I did have a good enough time listening to the audiobook. I always wanted to keep listening. But at the end of the day, I just couldn't connect with the story like I wanted to

I didn't hate this book, but I dont think it will stick with me like Ella Enchanted. I can't see myself ever thinking about this book again to be quite honest.

First of all, gorgeous cover!

But I must confess, I didn't actually finish this book. Nothing against it, it reads just fine, but I think I'm starting to realize I'm an adult, and children's books aren't going to hold that same interest they had in the past. My to-read list is too long to try to keep up with the youth. so to speak.

Gail Carson Levine, what a ride it's been. I don't think I'll ever stop reading you... not truly.

But I do need to move on for awhile.

I loved Ella Enchanted. Might be one of the most formative books of my childhood. So reading this was a true pleasure. It felt a little bit like knowing the end to know how Peter, Eleanor, and Jerrold all ended up, but I didn't know the end of Evie's story. I enjoyed it very much.

More boring and slow than I hoped. A very cute story in the end, but it took awhile to get there.
