a fine mystery but a little dense for my preferences. i think that there was a lot to be done with zofia’s character that wasn’t, and the shades of a woman trying to fit into society’s mold while also desiring to operate outside of it were interesting but certainly nowhere near the focus it could have been

I'm unsure if something was lost in translation here as there are two authors plus a translator making in effect three authors.
The sentences were overly long and it was hard to follow. I could see there was social commentary going on but don't have the knowledge to understand exactly about what other than upper class people in the old days of Poland.

I don't think I was in the right head space for this novel, while it sounded very interesting I had issues getting invested in the story. It's a 3 stars for now but I might go back and try and read it again in a later day. But at the moment it was an okay read anywho
Gdyby to było możliwe, dałabym cztery i pół gwiazdki - bo może nie arcydzieło na maksymalną ocenę, ale jednak książka bardzo sprawnie napisana i wciągająca. Jak dawno nie czytałam prozy "gatunkowej" która zamiast irytować stylem czarowalaby uroczą lekkością! Pani Marylo, czekam ona następną książkę ;)
I regret to say that I truly skipped around a solid 150 pages of this book by blatantly skim reading over them. I could not find a reason to get invested in this book, it simply was not one that was written to me. I tried, and I finished it to reveal the culprit of the mystery and even then, the book was horribly flat. In
Aside from Zofia’s manipulative tendencies, no character had any personality beyond the depth of a thumb tack. I tried so incredibly hard go to want to be invested. But even the suspense wasn’t all that invigorating, and the whole novel felt politically tiresome, like actually trying to navigate the tea time circles of a historical society. Really, really not my cup of tea but I can see the charm it may hold for others!

Przyjemna rzecz, chociaż mniej tu kryminału niż się spodziewałam. Bohaterowie po prostu cudni.
Good fun. A bit wordy in places for my liking, but enjoyable.
