An epidemic, but one that is told very thoughtfully, asking questions about consciousness and who we are.

The way the author writes this book is actually dream-like. It's kind of floaty and makes you feel like everywhere is a maze or some kind of loop. I liked it! The cover is definitely misleading ahaha but I got this book as a blind date from a bookstore so!

One thing I liked about this book is that
it's never explained how the virus started and it's cool how it's very references modern culture like the internet and the news.
and how it wasn't predictable. For an example, I wasn't expecting
Mei to die. I thought Mei and Matthew were going to become official and she was going to be a heroine. and I definitely didn't expect the father of the girls to play a bigger role.

Honestly I was invested in all the characters, I was surprised because normally when there's a ton of characters and if we're following multiple people, I tend to get confused but this wasn't confusing at all.

Thanks for writing!

This book was alright. I really enjoyed her writing style and the idea of the sleeping virus, but I feel that there were too many characters that were not hashed our enough. You were never given enough time to connect to them and everything felt like it was seen through a haze. I do think this was the authors intent, just not my personal preference as I am a very character driven reader.

A nice twist on a theme that’s been used before. Walker’s characters are nicely developed, familiar, people you know or can easily imagine. The story is frightening yet peaceful, hopeful and hopeless. As someone who suffers from night terrors and has had dreams that turned out to be premonitions, the concept of separating the reality of our dreams from the reality of our waking hours is very interesting to me. This book kept my attention through the very end.

Gorgeous lyricism. I can see the echoes of St John Mandel and Black Mirror (San Junipero). Great writing. Helped me process the pandemic 💛
