Character development was slow and surprisingly I found the title book character Anna Karenina unbearable at times but I also pitied her; she is a strong-minded woman but also very insecure. My favorite characters to read about in the book were Konstantin Levin and Kitty. I loved their development and the pinnacle point when they are finally brave enough to move forward with the love they have for each other.

I tried so hard to like this book but it was such a painful read. The characters were plain and boring, the storyline tried to make itself sad and tragic but it felt like it tried too hard to be tragic. Instead of it making me feel sad as the story is supposed to it only made me not care and that's rare for me. If you would've given this book to an AO3 girl then she would've made this story from an abomination into a painting. Atleast I did enjoy the foreshadowing of
Anna's suicide
, I think the way it began and it ended was beautiful in a literary sense. Other than that I was very disappointed.

Between this and Crime and Punishment, I'm figuring out Russian literature really is just talentless trash.

Brilliant.
