The book’s pace was very incoherent - everything felt slow, but it was happening fast.
The characters were flat, no morals, no personality, no goals, literally nothing.
The romance barely had any build-up, they wanted to fuck each other since the beginning.
The reveal was very anticlimatic.
The world-building was promising at first, but then it went downhill.
If you want cheap romantasy smut then read this, if you want engaging and well-written literature - find a different book.

It's not the best book I've ever read, but it's also not the worst... so I was a bit surprised to see how many bad reviews this book has.
Our first impression of the MMC, Kane, isn't the greatest. He comes off as misogynistic and kind of an ass, but I'm going to chalk it up to the more medieval period feeling of this particular fantasy story and say it was fitting there... because honestly I much preferred Kane over that Peridot king (Erryx? or whatever his name was) that wouldn't even listen to his daughter because she was a princess. That being said, it was still rather annoying to hear Arwen constantly talk about how "gorgeous" Kane was, and hear him call her "bird" so frequently. Gave away the love interest immediately.
But! I did enjoy the pining between them. For the pacing of the book, I thought it worked well. There were some very childish bits about the romance but I enjoyed that they had genuine interactions between each other that built their characters and relationships. Kane, as much as he did hide from Arwen, was also secretly her number one supporter. I appreciated that Arwen wasn't one of those FMCs who's immediately good at everything and understands everything about her powers. She learned as the story went on and had room for growth, and has continued room for growth in the remainder of the series.
While fairly predictable, I still found the plot to be good, the characters overall likeable, the FMC well-rounded, and the world building to be decent.

Tell me why did the author think that a man talking about a woman's "heaving bosom" being nice to look at it, would make a great first impression??? This honestly shld have been my cue to DNF but I was just too stubborn and I paid for it.
There was so much I did NOT like about this book. I was actually so hyped for it because of a few tiktok reviews that I've seen but it was so bad!! Kane is the epitome of everything that is wrong with men today. How and why on earth did the author think that him talking about Arwen's breasts/body, in the first few instances that they've met, was a good idea?? on what earth?????? in what universe??? the way that he did this right as Arwen was thrown into the dungeon after being captured by his soldiers, and she was HYPERVENTILATING as she was frightened and worried for her safety. and man thought it was a good idea to talk abt her body??????? in such a situation?????? right after she got threatened by the soldiers as well???? what???????????????????
i knew after that, that this book was going absolutely nowhere, but i tried ok. i gave it a chance, i 'read' it all the way to the end, and in no way did it ever get better :D
from their first meeting, Arwen shld have clocked him as a misogynistic ass AND STEERED CLEAR OF HIM. BUT NO she cant help but admire how 'strikingly gorgeous' he is and his 'stunning pale blue eyes' YUCKS GURL YOU'RE IN A FREAKING DUNGEON, WHO KNOWS IF YOU'RE GONNA GET KILLED IN THE NEXT MIN, GET A FKING GRIP. PRIORITIES!!! and nvm that. she is supposed to be this v skilled and valuable healer BUT SHE DID NOTHING THROUGHOUT, they just kept her in the infirmary doing fking housekeeping omgawd. like u expect me to believe that they thought that was a good use of a healer??????????? who was supposedly v rare???? hUHHHHHH (omg me literally throughout just going huUHHHHHHHHHH)
so then in the end, it was revealed that he's fae and so is she, and she is part of this ancient prophecy thing and apparently v valuable (yada yada yada) and ofc she's mad at him for lying and betraying and keeping shit frm her blah blaah blah, then book 2.
anyway, that was so bad. i can't even find one thing i liked abt it lol

I can't say enough good things about this book. I've just began book 3 and it's already one of my top 5 series.
