So, it has well and truly been a hot minute since I last picked up a Shadowhunter world book and I was not sure how well this was going to go because of how long I have been out of this world. But I was pleasantly surprised.
I actually quite enjoyed this one. It was a fun time, and it was interesting to see more of the Shadowhunter world rather than just sticking with the US/UK locations that we have seen so far.
Also seeing the change in Alec & Magnus’ relationship has been fun. Especially now that they have Max, it adds a new level to their lives that is interesting to follow as readers.
I’m also intrigued by what exactly it means to be an “Eldest Curse”. I assume it has something to do with the offspring of the demon being able to slay the demon or something like that, but I wouldn’t put any money on that being the outcome.

I loved the dark undertone of this book, but I have to admit that some parts were quite boring and I often felt like skipping some paragraphs (I didn't do it but still-).
For the first time we explore the time period between the ending of TftSA and the beginning of TDA, and it's clear that our beloved TMI characters are more mature now, more adult.
Magnus and Alec have solved their trust issues and are now a couple, but at the same time they became parents, and we see how this affects their behaviour, both in an ordinary setting and in dangerous situations.
After the events of TftSA, Simon is not the same person he was before and in this book Clare shows us the extent of it. Simon suffers from PTSD and he also finds himself in a place that puts him under even more pressure than when he was at the Academy. It's not an easy read suited for everyone.
The epilogue. I'm not going to say anything, but Cassandra Clare surely loves to keep us on our toes.

"You choose to love or you choose to live in an empty world with no one there but you."
