I really liked the concept, but the execution gets worse as the book progresses. Like Austin makes so many rookie mistakes and the perpetrator is the most boring option ever.

Not the worst read in the world - I appreciated the Austin/Char dynamic, especially as it related to their complicated past, though I feel like it could have been more developed for how impactful it was made out to be. More than other Walker novels I've read, though, the conclusion/reveal was pretty out of the blue - both entirely expected and rushed into only a few pages. Understanding this is largely meant as a vehicle for a love story, I'd love for the cases to be taken more seriously, especially as an opportunity to further explore the romance and trauma. Also, with the little inconsistencies throughout and the big crime being almost entirely undeveloped, this was a bit of a miss for me. I did appreciate the parental healing/AIDS remembrance portion nicely as a nod to history and dealing with internalized homophobia, but other than that... I wouldn't read again.
Happy Pride. A Detective goes to work for an agency in his old home town and he reconnects with his old love who has amnesia. Days of our Lives? It was a fun pseudo-mystery. Might check out others in series.
