Let me start by saying this is a great story. I love second chance romance, and with all the trauma, tension, murder & mystery mixed in, it’s damn near perfect. Unfortunately, it’s not a great book. You’re thinking that doesn’t make sense, right? What I mean by that is there are fixable inconsistencies in details throughout it that impacted my ability to lose myself in the story. It’s little things like POV flipping from Austin to Charlie within a passage or mentioning parents getting divorced, then a reference to them moving without first clarifying that one of them had gotten remarried. Or even someone recounting details of an event and then later remembering it in a way that confuses or conflicts with what was said earlier. None of that ruins the story - the reunion of two guys who seemed to be two halves of a whole and fight to find their way back to each other while solving the mystery of Charlie’s past - it just makes it a little more difficult to enjoy it.

DID NOT FINISH: 70%

Between the cringe dialogue and grammatical errors throughout, I found this unbearable. I tried to power through but there was a line that was supposed to read, “F**k yeah, that’s it” and instead was erroneously written, “F**k yeah, that it’s.”

Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Welp, I finally finished the first book. I am not sure what it is, but this book was not giving what it was supposed to, and I cannot pinpoint what it is. Because it was cute, it had a decent plot, good smut, good characters, and decent follow-up. Yet I was still having trouble getting into the book and reading it. I found myself reading a chapter and then moving on. I am still going to read the other two books in the series.
