Maya is da bomb!
Maya really makes an impression. Like the guys say - it's incredibly easy to fall a little bit in love with her. Even though she has been so sheltered all her life, her inquisitive nature comes across as sincere, not childlike, and I adore that.

This book was hilarious, I was laughing so hard at several scenes. I really loved the female main character here and the story is interesting as well. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Graphic: Physical abuse
I've read this story at least 2 other times. buncha dudes, phoenix lady, some abuse. Over and over and over and over....
To say the least it didn't really bring anything new to this type of plot line. For once I wanna see someone pick something reaaally weird for a mythological creature. Like a Jackalope. or a Squonk.
Also was a little weirded out by her being super young and innocent with all the leering the love interests did.
It wasn't badly written, just wasn't mind blowing content.

The premise is interesting, but the execution could be done better, especially since it's not a standalone novel. A lot of promise that could have been better if there was better world-building and if the time span of the novel was more drawn out. But, the MC feels far too ... young. The 'mates' don't take any steps to help educate her or ensure she learns more than what she searches for herself. Feels a tad questionable and I honestly skimmed the last 40% of it just to finish it.
This was very stilted in reading. I don't like the POV changing between characters. There we're too many people telling the story it was hard to keep with sometimes. I won't continue on with this series most likely.

~My Thoughts~
I do not particularly enjoy the insta-love that happens. I did like that it took some time for her and them to connect to her mates. I loved how naive she is without coming out like a total idiot. As a reader you understand where the main character is coming from but the characters of the book are always questioning why she doesn't even understand the most basic of things.
~Story~
While she is intelligent, as a reader you don't know to what extent she is lacking in knowing the world. For instance, cell phone, not only is basic but the way she questions it not only does it trouble her mates but it gives them clues as to what her situation might be. I kind of like how the author pushes for the guys to protect her but she is trying to find her independence and it does bug her that the guys are constantly pushing her for it. While the first book introduced the world that she is now going to be living in, there is more to explore because of what she is.
