The first short story is what’s keeping the rating for this so high. It’s not that the other short stories were bad they just felt unnecessary. Skins could have carried this as just a novella and been a whole five stats! Also I knocked a star off because I may very well never look at a unicorn the same again and that is a travesty.

I DNF’d at about 30%. There’s certain things I can and cannot do. Books like this are one of them, I enjoy fucked up books, but I think there’s extreme horror and then I think there’s just gross, this book is just gross. There is no reason you need to write three pages about some sick shit of necrophilia, it’s disgusting and someone needs to stop this man from writing. I’m disappointed, because Woom is what for me into extreme horror, but I will no long be supporting Duncan Ralston.

Another extreme horror journey from Duncan Ralston! The book starts off with Skin, which I really loved, and has some extremely gruesome imagery. Ralston follows it up with two short stories, Bait and Peg, both of which pack a punch. After reading Skin Flicks, I will forever think of things like porn, animatronics, unicorns, and STDs very differently!

SKIN FLICKS
Larry Walker is a 68 y/o retired porn star. He is kidnapped to star in his final film.

The Doll used a scene from porn to revitalize his parent's marriage. It involved a 3rd party coming to the house while the mother and son were home alone. The man would have sex with the woman, disregarding her protests. The father comes home early and catches them. He killed the man, his wife, and himself.

Larry is the 3rd party. Linda Flint is the wife, and The Doll is the husband. Their bodies are taxidermied to preserve the memory and close that chapter in The Doll's life.

BAIT
Alexa Keach is a goddess. Men can't keep their eyes away from her. She calls Brook to her townhouse out of the blue. There is a naked man on the floor.

Alexa was born with this symbiont inside of her. She is compelled to help it breed. If it is unsuccessful, it kills the offending host.

She asks Brook for help disposing of the body. Brook offers to breed with the symbiont. Instead, it leaves Alexa entirely.

PEG
Peg was a horse with a unicorn-like growth coming out of her forehead.

This collection of short, sex-fueled, fucked up stories did not fall short anywhere (no pun intended?)
Each story was drastically different, creative, and grossly well-written. As expected, Ralston delivers with the outrageous and thoroughly thought-out stories, full of grotesque imagery, visceral details, and strangely unique plots.

I really enjoy the attention to detail and the overall prose of the author's work- incredible worldbuilding, dialogue, and character development are always beyond what I would expect from an extreme horror book. I was pretty sure I knew what the ending was going to be to a few of these, but they were still a little twistier than I thought.

I didn't expect to enjoy or like this one as much as I did. Don't get me wrong- it was disgusting, perverse, horrifying, and vomit-inducing BUT it was a good one!
