Wow, this was such a fun and interesting read. I love when there are multiple storylines that are intertwined and seeing how and when they connect. Each story was so interesting and engaging that it was hard at times to separate and go back to the other one. And by the time I was 3/4 of the way done with this, I could barely put it down because I needed to understand and piece everything together. Oh and the writing is just fantastic - so lyrical and beautiful, truly a joy to read.
Absolutely not what I expected. In fact, when I started reading it and it was clear that the content of the book wasn't really what I had hoped it to be, I wanted to stop reading and pick up another book. Luckily, I have never been able to stop reading a book, even if I dislike it. I read the final half today, in one go, because I just couldn't put it down. The afterword rounds it off for me perfectly, especially because it's not a perfect ending.
I love the way Jessie Burton writes, it’s truly beautiful and makes every page a joy! After seriously enjoying ‘The Miniaturist’, ‘The Muse’ was next on my list and was no exception. The book jumps between Odelle in the 60s (London) and Olive in the 30s (Spain), binding together two incredible stories. Without giving anything away, this a fabulous book, a mix of romance, art, trouble and politics, with its fair share of heartbreak, jealousy and hatred. Loved it start to finish!
Habe mehr bekommen als erwartet.
Leichte Sommerlektüre erwartet, aber dann doch mit etwas mehr Tiefgang und auch leichte Sogwirkung.

I liked how many themes there were in this book: usually you get one or two central themes in a book but here you had painting, writing, creativity and inspiration, London in the 60s, Spain in the 30s, Caribbeans in London, English in Spain, civil war, etc. The author is fantastic at setting the reader in space and time and evoking the Art images we got to know throughout the book. You get mystery, you get twists and it is wrapped up satisfactorily (in my mind, at least).
well idk i really loved this book maybe bc it’s set in london and feels very relative to my life and art practice but i recommend x we love a jigsaw puzzle of a story. Velasquez, Goya and Murillo all get mentioned when there’s paintings by all three artists where i work .. . coincidence? ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ finally first book of 2021 done lol
