definitely a short story but upon reading reminded me of several different tv shows and a couple other rizzoli and isles books blended together. good though

My first Tess Gerritsen book - albeit a short story - I enjoyed the brief insight into the literary Rizzoli and Isles characters and I hope to venture into some of those stories in the future.

The story was interesting but oh so short. It was entertaining and I was glad to notice, the author created something cohesive despite the shortness of the story.
I absolutely hate/fear/abhor spiders. So I'm glad it got to be "punished" for its crime (I know, know - cruel, but it killed someone! so it should receive the rightful punishment).

I have to admit I was disappointed with this short story, I felt it was too short and I never really got into it. The characters were so empty and ridiculous, even Rizzoli and Isles. I love Tess Gerritsen and have to read every book she releases but i wouldn't recommend this. The story line was too far fetched for so little detail perhaps if the 'vampire' characters were in a full novel with a background and more explanation then it would work better.

Maybe I enjoy the books too much to appreciate this. I wanted so much more.

For the first time, Tess Gerritsen released a short story starring Rizzoli and Isles, available only as an eBook. And for good measure, our intrepid heroines find themselves facing off against a possible vampire and a father eager to avenge his dead daughter.

Let's be honest for a minute: this short story owes its existence to online marketing. It's a way to collect a few extra bucks while also drumming up awareness of the series' next installment, which conveniently comes along pretty soon.

Still, Gerritsen makes it fun. It's clear that the story idea didn't have enough firepower to last an entire novel, so it actually was wise to keep this one short. I sound like I'm being harsh on this concept, but that's not actually the case. It's a fun idea, and like I said, the idea was kinda fun and couldn't have sustained a novel anyway. And for anyone looking to pad the time between books, you can't really go wrong.

Grade: B

An interesting story, and I think she did a good job of straddling book and TV canon.

Freaks is a short story Tess Gerritsen wrote to whet the appetite of all us Rizzoli & Isles fans while we await the release of The Silent Girl. It's a super-short story, it took me all of 10 minutes to complete if that, but for what it was - a free, short story - it fit the bill perfectly.

I was a bit worried it would all become a bit of a farce - how can you solve a murder in 10 minutes in a book? But, no, it was actually quite quirky that way and Jane's line on the last page was brilliant, total Jane.

It isn't a real part of the Rizzoli/Isles series, not much happens for it to be a necessary read, but for a short sharp story when you have a spare few minutes it's well worth reading and I'm eagerly awaiting the next Gerritsen novel (having already read The Silent Girl. Boo).
