This one just wasn't for me. I didn't feel anything for either of the characters, and I'm not totally sure why. They just didn't seem like real people. I think for me, it read more like misery porn, and I just couldn't relate. It seemed like maybe the author combined every story she heard from victims of trafficking into two characters. I wanted to feel empathy, frustration, rage on their behalf, but I just... didn't. The protagonists seemed more like caricatures than real people.

I really struggled with the writing style on this one. It didn’t make sense a lot of the time. Important subject matter, but I think the writing was what killed it for me.

What a horrific and deeply moving story of two girls thrown/throwing themselves into the sadistic world of human trafficking. Differing methods of coping with the torment they suffer and ultimately portrayed through a tender and realistic story.

Cloud Girls is a literary fiction that follows Sammy and Nico on a serious, heart breaking, eye opening journey of trafficking
I don't want to give too much away with this. It definitely deals with heavy content. There were parts that were hard to absorb. There were nights, as I read this that I'd go sit in my kids' rooms watching them sleep, completely in awe of my love for my children and filled with sorrow at what the world is like that they have to navigate.
This isn't my normal genre, but I enjoyed this. I felt so many emotions while reading this. It felt raw and real. I felt for Sammy and her home life. I mourned the loss of childhood for Nico. I didn't want to rush this read, I wanted to sit with the content
This is definitely a heavier read, but so worth it.
