Honestly I really enjoyed this book, the romance aspect was more with learning to love yourself then romantic love, but with a b-plot of romantic love I do wish it was more there, especially in the epilogue. But I would 1000% recommend it. Helen’s story arc was incredible and I love how she found herself in the wilderness.

Not my favorite Katherine Center book, though not due to poor writing or character development. Those aspects were great. I did not like the MFC at all and the age difference/age at first meeting between the two really icked me out. They did grow on me at the end, but it was hard to ignore that. I did think that the Jake was going to have some kind of terminal brain cancer, and was relieved that he was actually going blind, not that that isn't a terrible diagnosis in itself

I'm a fan of Katherine Center and am working my way through her older books. This is another cute women's fiction with a central romance. Our heroine, Helen, is plenty likable. And, she's a little clueless, as she seemed to not notice for 6 years how much of a crush her younger brother's best friend has on her.
I liked Helen and Jake, and I was on board with how their relationship shifted from "friend of my kid brother" to "oh, hey there" to "back off, ladies, he's mine."
I also enjoyed the details about going on the hiking adventure trip. This trip wasn't quite as awful as the one I just read about (also fictional) in the Jane Harper book, Force of Nature. But, both have convinced me (like I actually needed any prodding) to confirm my position that I'll never take one of those trips. Blisters and bugs and not enough water and sleeping on the ground huddled up with strangers. No thanks.
But, making it through was the goal Helen had set for herself to get over her divorce, as she'd been stuck in time for a year since the ink was dry.
Jake's big secret was rather predictable, and not quite as maudlin as I'd worried, so I was relieved about that.
I loved the bar mitzvah scene and also the Chuck Norris jokes.
Overall an enjoyable read.

Watched the movie a few months back. The movie is nearly 100% similar to the book. The movie was ok so I definitely didn’t need to read the book
