4.25 stars. Very much enjoyed this book up until the ending. I know there's going to be a second book but just left it too unhappy and too open-ended for me. This book really shows that if you treat someone like a monster and you'll make a monster somehow. I'll definitely read the second one and hopefully it has a happy and satisfying ending.

Feels like a rip off of wicked??

i really enjoyed this! i think it was a lot of fun and a strong retelling! waiting for my library hold for book two

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it fills a void often found in fantasy with a story of feminine rage, a villain perspective, wicked powers, and sapphic romance.

I found the story of the decline of Briar all too familiar and angering, a queendom gifted to women but eventually overtaken by greedy men. People who are only valued for their gifts and live at the mercy of the rich and powerful.

The Graces reminded me a bit of Dhionelle Clayton’s Belles and I did not mind it one bit. They’re a fascinating concept for a character, especially with how they Fade. I found. Laurel’s character compelling and shared Alyce’s conflicting feelings about Rose.

Alyce’s emotions are so visceral and well-described that I felt them with her. It felt cathartic when she gives into her moments of rage.

I absolutely devoured the ending of this book, I couldn’t tell what would happen next or who to trust. The whole novel was well-paced in my opinion.

Alyce's development is incredible. The people of the Kingdom deserve her in every infinite possible way. Can't wait to get my hands on book 2!
