This book is as fantastic as its cover. I love fairytale villain origin stories (something I didn't realize about myself, but I'm noticing a pattern now), and this one did not disappoint! Anyone who likes Disney's Maleficent will likely enjoy this as well, although the relationship between Maleficent/Aurora and Alyce/Aurora is very different.

I loved the Cinderella retelling being mixed in. It fit so perfectly in this story. The entire book did a fantastic job at building upon itself to lead to a truly chill-inducing finish.

The main character is absolutely insufferable and the writing is about as good as mine was when I was 14. This did not belong in the adult fiction section. This was on par with the worst of the YA fiction I read as a teen. Just... So bad.

This book gave me butterflies and pissed me off all at the same time. 😭❤️ I know it's a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but I was still hoping for a happy ending! There may still be, since there's a second book, but MAN do cliffhangers kills me. 😭 All-in-all, a really good read! I will be buying the second book ASAP.

I totally forgot to review this novel apparently. Y’all know I’m a sucker for a good villainess story, & I’m totally here for some Sapphic rep. But this was just… bad.

I would love to be more eloquent, but bad is the first word that comes to mind. It’s bland in the sense that the characters and their actions feel two dimensional. Any growth made is suddenly back-tracked. I wanted more to be entirely honest. More out of her relationships, growth that felt more permanent. But beggars can’t be choosers, right?

Overall this story let me down in a lot of ways, and I really don’t feel like picking up the sequel.
