I had seen this book as a recommendation for when you’re in a SJM book hangover. This was definitely not that for me.

Zafira is the hunter, disguised as a man hunting food in the forest where no one else dares to go. But she gets an invitation for a quest from a silver witch and the chance to bring magic back to her country.

Nasir is the crown prince, heir to the sultan’s reign, but also the assassin bound by his father’s orders and cruelty. He is sent to kill the Hunter on the quest.

There was lots of questing and adventure and found friends. The author definitely pushed the ending message hard and clearly set up for a sequel, but this book moved slow for me from start to finish. Half the time I felt like huge gaps were left out as we jumped in the dual POV and I feel like not a lot important happened despite being almost 500pgs long.

Loved the atmosphere and it was mildly intriguing but really nothing special. The first 100 pages were very dragged and it shouldn't take 100 pages for the inciting incident to start. The plots filled with YA clichés and I was disappointed at how she revealed her identity so quickly because it was the most interesting thing about the synopsis.

I definitely wouldn’t recommend this story to a new reader. It’s dialogue is very complex and even I struggled with it.

It took me almost halfway into the book to actually be hooked, the first 160 pages I had to drag myself through.

If I wasn’t stubborn I wouldn’t have finished this book and I don’t think I would even want to read the second book if the author didn’t leave such a cliff hanger on this book.

My only complain is how long it took me to actually want to read the book. The beginning was so slow and was such a drag I had to force myself to read and get through the first part of the book. But once I got to the second part I loved it.

I would give it more 3.5⭐️ then 4 but I’ll round up instead of down.
