Number 13 in the Cork O’Connor series. I am a huge fan of this entire series. Every book is just as exciting as the one that you’ve just finished reading. There’s never a dull moment. The tension buildup and the wonderful characters are always there, book after book. In this book, Cork and his family and the people of Tamarack County are under siege by what appears to be a very malignant and evil force. It’s one of the coldest winters with the most snow that Tamarack County has ever experienced for some time, but that does not seem to stop this malevolent killer. Cork wrestles with many demons throughout the whole book, but knowing Cork, you know that he’ll figure it all out in the end. All my favourite characters are here, and even though they’re all close to home, they each find themselves in varying degrees of danger from the evil force that is stalking Tamarack County. Even my favourite character is drawn into the danger.  I dread the day when the old Meda, Henry Maloux comes to the end of his long life and is gone from the books. It’s been a real treat to watch Cork’s family grow up and also watching them grow up into such strong individuals. This is especially remarkable that this occurred.after the crushing loss of their mother a few years ago. As with all these books, it is fast paced and compelling. It’s hard to put the book down. And the narrator, David Chandler, does a fine job of interpreting the books and.the characters. I highly recommend this series, but I do suggest that you start at the beginning so you can get the full Cork O’Connor experience.

I read the book 'Tamarack County' by William Kent Krueger and gave it 4 Stars. I read the paperback and listened to a copy from Audible.com. it's a moody, character-driven mystery that blends suspense with emotional depth. Former sheriff Cork O’Connor investigates the disappearance of a judge’s wife, only to uncover ties to long-buried secrets—and a personal threat to his own family. Set in the stark winter of northern Minnesota, the novel explores themes of justice, grief, and vengeance. With its richly drawn setting, strong moral undercurrents, and a slow-burning plot, Tamarack County is both a gripping, page-turning mystery and a thoughtful meditation on loss and resilience. This was my first Cork O’Connor book in the series of 19 books, and it was #13 in the series.

This one was pretty good. It was very twisted at some parts.

I also love how he throws side chicks away so quickly - as he did early on in the series. JK that was sarc - he is so indecisive in his love life though.

Tamarack County focuses on Cork's past as sheriff and his present as a PI in a complex case that ends up taking him back to a wrongful conviction twenty years earlier.  A Judge's wife is killed first, but finding the connections and the why's and various surprises about the various players makes it a good mystery.  I prefer the locally based mysteries so this one was a winner due to the setting, the characters and the back stories along the way.  Steven plays a central role as does his first serious girlfriend, Marley and a gory experience on a night they skip a date and stay at Marly's.  Ultimately, terrible things happen in this book so stay away if intensely emotionally charged and severe violent things happen.  They are necessary to the story, which is well wrought and worth a read if you are good with that.
