Another winner in the Cork O'Connor series. This time there is something dark and menacing that seems to be stalking some of the people closest to Cork or to people connected with those close to him. Annie is back and seems to be having a crisis (I figured out what she must have been going through before it was revealed), and Stephen has a girlfriend. Not unusually, they are in the middle of winter with snowstorms galore, and bodies start to pile up, although in this case, it begins with the gruesome death of a dog. For those of you for whom this might be a trigger, just be warned. That said, things in this book are never gratuitous and it always fits in with the larger narrative. With Annie having her crisis, and Stephen having struggles of his own, the author once again handles the many spiritual threads of this universe very skillfully and I'm left in awe. This is absolutely one of my favorite detective series and I am looking forward to continuing with my journey.

This is an excellent series and this is one of he stronger in the series. The mystery is ok, the personal interactions of the central family and characters is outstanding! This is a writer who gives you the entire package when it comes to thriller/detective fiction. 4.85 stars! So...great!

A good one. Cork and his family face challenges that the reader doesn't expect-- not this reader, anyway-- and there are a few loose ends at the book's conclusion. All of this just makes me curious about what happens next. The usual great writing and twisty plotting.

Weather is often a major factor in this series and it certainly is in Tamarack County. As the latest in the series from author William Kent Kruger opens it is ten days before Christmas. Snow and cold have descended on the area surround Aurora, Minnesota. But, it wasn’t the snow and cold that killed the elderly Evelyn Carter, wife of a local judge. It was a knife used by a man.

Private Investigator Cork O’Connor won’t know for hours that she is dead and he won’t be the only one cloaked in ignorance of the crime. It will be many days before her body is recovered. As Cork and others set out in a search party to find the missing Evelyn Carter they have no idea what the future holds in this very complicated case that will lead to the decapitation murder of a family dog and much more.

The latest in the series is another good one featuring Cork’s complicated family and many other interesting characters. As in other books recently of this series, the focus shifts from character to character as they consider the themes of happiness, faith, and acceptance of others while dealing with the an increasing set of problems that hit close to home. The harsh weather conditions of Minnesota in late December is just as much a character as the characters themselves in this complicated mystery read. For this reader Tamarack County was a much improved read over recent ones in the series and a read that was very good.

Pretty good story, but the side story involving Annie was just irritating. Especially the choice she made at the end. I guess she was being true to herself, but her decision was way beyond my comprehension, since I am not a religious person. I would rather Krueger would stick to the mystery like he did in the earlier books of the series (and the Indian mysticism is a nice touch too), but leave the pious stuff out.

After reading some intense book club books, it was fun to return to Cork O'Connor and his family for another mystery set in northern Minnestoa.

As usual with this series, the plot of this book was complex and interesting. He puts other mystery authors to shame.

Love cork and all the books in this series so far but this one had its grip on me immediately from the beginning! So good! Excited for #14!

Not the best (it's always the family members!!), but always enjoyable. Read 'em all.
