I've really liked every Jeffery Deaver book I've read. I started with the Lincoln Rhyme books, and read most of them. This one introduced Kathryn Dance, who got spun off into her own series; I'm reading the first book of her series now, and it's wonderful, at least as good as the Lincoln Rhyme series, I believe.
I read this one a while back, and don't remember all the details, so I'll just say that if you like Jeffery Deaver's books, you won't be disappointed, and if you've never read the Kathryn Dance books, you'll be delighted at a new character that complements Rhyme very well. It would be great to read more with the two of them working together. But then again, it might stack the deck so much against the bad guys that there would be no suspense.

A very indepth, descriptive author. It wasn't a page turner for me, but I did enjoy the twists and turns. I did think it would make a great film and apparently it has been made, so one to watch.
Before and After...
Lincoln Rhyme uses this phrase repeatedly to separate aspects of the ongoing change not only in his current investigation, but also in his life.
I can't help but also make this phrase stick for me in reading this book. BEFORE I read this book, I had no expectations for the author. AFTER, I have found a new series that I am so excited to start reading.
BEFORE I stumbled upon the first major plot twist, I was getting annoyed at crimes ending before they'd begun. AFTER, it all made perfect sense and in one of those very rare moments in my life I DIDN'T SEE IT COMING!
Before and After...
Rhyme and his tight knit team are chasing "the watchmaker", a serial killer leaving behind fewer clues than he is bodies. But as the story unfolds it is not what any of them (or us as the reader) expect.
"Lies turn people ugly. Truth does the opposite..."
Whilst the search for truth drives his team nearly over the edge, it is also the drive to keep searching in the cracks between clues, to uncover what their crime scenes are really trying to tell them.
Jeffrey Deaver takes his time setting the scene for this novel, so much so that I was at times thinking "where the heck is he going with this"? However, once the plot takes off, so does the pace and for me it became a fast-paced "can't-put-the-damn-thing-down" kind of read.
Definitely an author I will be reading more of. Much more!

My favourite Deaver novel since The Bone Collector! I have enjoyed all of the Lincoln Rhyme novels so far, but the writing, character development and continual plot twists in The Cold Moon are now a very close second to that of The Bone Collector.
While this is another book in the Lincoln Rhyme series, the author keeps managing to make each one different. I was kept guessing by the plot twists and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the best of his that I have read.
Charms - Lumos Maxima: a book with a white cover
I'd give it about a 3.5 (4 for enjoyment, 3 for technical).
I suppose Jeffery Deaver isn't the King of the Plot Twist for nothing; he puts so many in in the last quarter of the book I get whiplash and can't keep half the story straight. Don't get me wrong, they're all great plot twists and keep me engaged in the book, but he could achieve the same results with far fewer twists. Deaver could take some advice from Coco Chanel:
“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”
Before you publish the book, read through the manuscript and take a thing or two out. What I'm saying is EDIT!
I did, however, really enjoy the introduction of Kathryn Dance in this book. It was nice to see the mix between kinesics and forensic science. I was already planning on reading her featuring series, but the little glimpse we get of her in this book has pushed that timeline up a little.
I can't say I didn't love this book, but I can say I'm more than a little frustrated with the writing.

I've finally figured out how to read and mostly enjoy this series. I have to put myself in the same state of mind as when I read wacky scifi, such as the Stainless Steel Rat series. There is absolutely no reason to take any of it seriously. I'm half way through the Rhyme series, as it stands in Aug 2021. I'll finish the series, but I'll quickly move on to others that are more enjoyable. I still haven't finished the Father Cadfael series, so will do all of the remaining ones. Ellis Perry wrote a lot of other books that also look interesting.
