Incredible. Long and slow but highlights a well lived life full of action, sorrow, jealousy, and love. Of course Hamilton’s life was cut short but his legacy is truly outstanding.

I would not have read this book were it not for book club and the musical, but it was very interesting. I actually didn't finish the entire thing, but read the first ten chapters and the last ten chapters in order to finish on time. I loved learning about Hamilton's origins and relationships, and his story is quite incredible. I will say, there is SO much detail, that I was often bored. I wish there was an abridged version to read. But, if you're a history buff, it's for you.

I picked up this biography, this style of book not my favorite type of book to read, because we had just went to Hamilton: an American Musical.

I’ve found mr Miranda took some liberties with the story of Alexander Hamilton, but mostly they were in service of telling his story.

Crying. Sobbing. Perfect storm. ⛈️

I never thought I’d cry so hard reading a biography about one of our founding fathers.

I cried because:

A. Hamilton’s ultimate end and the moments in his life that foreshadowed it

B. Of his faults—they stung worse than hurts from a common rogue

C. I was reminded of the intentions behind our democracy and of my own brand of patriotism

D. The realization that our country is led by a pendulum and that at the end of the day there is hope and strength in our democracy and the American people

This book was written in 2005. 2005!! And about events that are no longer in living memory. Yet, there was modernity to it all.

I can see why the musical was born from this tome.

In conclusion, this should be required reading.

Also…now I have a huge crush on Hamilton

Thoroughly enjoyable biography of a character from our history who, until recent years, was overlooked. Granted, this didn’t grasp me as tightly as it did  one Lin-Manuel Miranda, but as a fan of the musical, it was extra great to read the full, fascinating story (and recognize parts of the text that reappeared in lyrical form). There are brief moments where things get repeated, and it is incredibly dense, but still a fantastic read.

The book is great, but the audiobook is hard to get through.
