Everything felt a bit rushed. But nevertheless, for a short book like this one i ate it up.
I found Nina absolutely hilarious, not only does she boss around the big, bad scary pakhan. But she has no problem to stare him down and tease him at the same time. And don't even get me started on Roman.
This man saw Nina and decided yep not going to let this one go, her little quirks, unfiltered flirtyness and zero fucks given attitude and all. Nina could say jump and Roman wouldn't even hesitate to ask how high. She could shoot him in the knee caps and he'd crawl to her, or use his wheelchair but I guarantee that this man would crawl just to prove his point to her.
She could serve him divorce papers and he'd send them right back with no written on the dotted like meant for his name, or even in the same envelope bit in ashes.
I was just generally obsessed with their mutual obsession with each other.
I could read about them forever.

My favourite part of this whole book is: When I’m sure she’s sleeping soundly, I take her small hand from my chest and place a kiss on the tips of her fingers. “I will be killing anyone who dares to hurt you,” I whisper. “I will just make sure you don’t find out next time.”
This is the best ‘touch her and die’ I’ve ever read in this genre, plus there’s (though dubious) disability representation, understanding of consent, and an impressive lack of misogyny. Again, within the confines of this genre, colour me pretty bloody impressed.
At about the 50% mark, the story descended into total silly nonsense land and I just resigned myself to enjoying the ride because the first half didn’t make me want to pull all my hair out. It was…frankly a pretty wholesome mafia story which means, of course, that it’s wildly unrealistic but dude, they ALL are.
At one point, Nina’s mum is like your dad wouldn’t kill for me boohoo and Nina is like…yes, and?
